Just a story...sorta...
I would put this in off-topic, but it has to do with ns...

There was this great game on caged, we had generator, we were totally getting owned. Eventually they got sewer, then vent. It was just a booooring ol' two hive lockdown, constant gorge rush on vent, with lerks and skulks, vs lvl 2 weapons, lvl 3 armor marines. They got sieges then, so that pushed the gorge back to shipping, they now they started bringing HMGs to shipping, eventually built a turret factory, but they only made one turret before they got overrun. That went on for a while, then my team tried taking sewer, which was locked down with a ton of turrets, so that didn't work. On my way back to vent, from trying to take sewer, I starting munching the phase gate from behind. At the same time I guess they destroyed the turret factory. They coulden't hit me behind it, so after about 10 seconds (nubs) I destroyed it, and then got shot. "TEAM CMON I GOT THE PHASE GATE FINISH THEM!" (there were only 2-3 marines left). What do the two lerks and skulk in the entrance to vent do? The skulk just jumps down and lands on a mine, and the two lerks sit there, spiking the lifeless turrets still there. Eventually they got the phase and TF back up. I was furious. After yelling at my teammates for a little bit, while somebody ran around destroying marine RTs, somebody got the phase again, and you can guess what happend next. We took vent, after they had sieges, lvl 3 weapons/armor, and HMGs/jps! After building the hive, two HMG/jp marines destroyed it while it was about half-way, but eventually we got them, started the hive again, so I went lerk, stayed at vent and watched it, yelling at my teammates some more, for defending the hive by myself, while the marines were attacking stability monitering. We also took that back, I guess my team took out sewer, because they were yelling over the mics "SEWERS DOWN!" and my hive sprite turned from dark grey to light. After the whole match of losing, they FINALLY had heavies, which were also no match because they only had hmgs, and I was sitting on the structures using umbra. Eventually they got a gl and we finally started running. Then the third hive finished and it was over, I was sporing the heavies while the fades rushed in with claws. In the end, after a 2 hive lockdown with marines having full upgrades, we accually won!

I think the reason why we won is because they never got heavy armor, they underestimated its power. And we had a good team.

This has no real signiffigance at all, just sharing with you how much fun it was, and how heavy armor can win or lose a game.

I had a beautiful game yesterday on Hera.

Marines as standard relocated to holoroom, IPs/CC/etc in the corridor behind the security door which was closed and welded. After relocating there they proceded to crush us poor aliens quite badly with HA/HMGs and moved into Processing with a mutli siege setup nuking our second hive before it was even an 8th built. "Oh dear" we cried.
This was, fortunately, taking a long time though, so our erstwhile gorge trudneled around the entire map and setup the largest WOL you can fit into one small area, right next to the welded security door. In true "alamo" style our gorges words were "we have only one chance team..OPEN THAT DOOR" so the rest of us as lowly skulks made a mad dash as a group through the forest of marines turrets and mines in holoroom with only one purpose in mind..opening that door. Our team were killed off one by one until there was only myself and one other skulk left, as I ran up and down the walls acting as a decoy my last remaining friend made a dive for the switch and opened the door. I jumped behind the crates and watched in awe as the sirens sounded, the doors slowly opened up and all hell was unleashed upon the marine base.

First to go were the IPs and marines who were trying to kill us shortly after the Comm chair went down and the marines knew they were truly doomed, as the processing team wandered back to see what had caused there teammates sudden deaths, they looked upon there doom in horror and were set upon by our now respawned skulks as goblets of acid rained down upon them.

I love games when you almost are lost and then climb up to victory...
Even those games who you do not win, but almost are fun.. the long games...

Those are true "gg"s

This story is the rox, and how I'd love more games to be played (well except for the non-listening teamates part). I too, hate the marines wasting the whole alien team with JP/HMG rush in 5 minutes and then saying "GG". I'd like to shove those g's where the sun don't shine on 'em :-p

Since everyone else feels the need to, i think i'll climb aboard the bandwagon.

This game took place about a month ago or so, i was still pretty much a nub and i'd not discovered how amazing NS could be... until this point. The game started off and proceeded as usual, it was ns_nancy, the map i know the best and love to play, we (being marines) trundled through, set up an outpost in Subspace to secure a hive, and then we proceeded to move on Port Engine. This is where things went a little bad really (i was just following orders, building, defending and so on). Before we knew it we had lost our original base and the comm built a cc, ip and armoury at subspace as a dying gesture to the aliens that we would fight.

Then things proceeded to trundle a little bit further downhill, we had at most 2 RT's still active at this time, and 3 fades and a lerk knocking on our door with acid rockets, destroying our carefully placed mines and turrets. We all collectively thought, this is it, game over and all kept lingering ont he F4 key. But the comm says he has an idea, and with what remaining res he had, issued 4 JP's and 4 HMGS to any of those still alive and sent them in teams of two through the vent in the roof of subspace and out to each other hive. Before the aliens could even think, all you could hear was the sound that both hives had been decimated and a collective responce of "WTH" began scrolling along the chat box. All it took was to round up and slaughter the remaining aliens and a desperate last stand for the marines turned into possibly the best and most satisfying win i've ever had the privaledge to be a part of.

never forget about heavy armor. Jetpacks make great marine "lerks," but when you gotta clean the house, you need HA walls, and decent ones.

The servers I play on are starting to really use the HA (btw: I consider HA viable only for small matches, or after full upgrades in large ones). Makes for some very hard-fought battles

This is how 99% of games on nancy end when marines relocate to subspace, they cower, hide and die alot, then JP HMG come, game over, what a nice waste of an hour.

This wasn't a relocation, it was just securing the RT, hive with a few turrets and so on, but then forced to set up camp in SS due to the marine start getting raped.

Nice sotries guys!

I'll add my 2 cents as well:
It wasn't really the 'best' game I have had, but it was a nice comeback. On hera we relocated to holoroom and defended it for quite a while, so that we could get lvl 3 weps and lvl 2 armor. But we failed to secure the hives and were finally overrun by fades and lerks, with the 3rd hive in progress. In the mean time, one marine welded the bars in the back of Data Hive and the commander built a cc in this vent. All the marines who respawned didn't move and we waited for the armory to get upgraded. When it was finally done, the comm handed out 4 HMGs and we stormed Data Core. It was fully lamed up but eventually we got the hive and lost only 2 HMGs (the respawning marines got the other HMGs back because they were just around the corner). The fades thought that we were finished already and tried to kill us which was their doom. Then we got Holo back, killed archiving and set up a base near Ventilation. When Arch was up again, Ventilation went down. Finally, the last alien resistance was broken and we won the match.

Nice stories all. Makes you respect the comm and the aliens who didn't just f4 instantly. Plus its just darn fun to read and picture (even MonsE likes them )

My favorite game was a simple 3 on 3. I (being somewhat new at NS and a somewhat decent comm) decided to jump in the cc, and dropped a comm chair in sub and moved out with my two other marines to build it. Taking subspace set the aliens back, but in the smaller games the advantage is really theirs. Truly standing no chance, i sent my marines to seek out rts and rambo, just do whatever. one of them decides to head over to port, constantly just getting chewed up and spit back out. The other actually caps 4 rez nodes (our old base, etc), and moves around and magically makes it into Noname hive unmolested. I seize the opportunity and drop him a tf and upgrade it real quick. after dropping 4 turrets, i tell him not to build them all the way and tell my other marine not to kill anyone (the second hive wasn't done cooking yet and i didn't want any aliens respawning while we were building...). My marine builds all the turrets to one bar left, and builds the 2 sieges i drop to almost done, then i put the phase up. Its been about 3 minutes by now, so i'm actually surprised we've been so lucky to not have one of the aliens stumble onto us. Then, for some strange reason, one of the aliens decides to blow himself up on a mine. Respawns on top of the *not quite* finished base and eats my marine. Whoops! so i quick drop myself some mines, hop through the phase, and drop all 5 before i die, knifing the skulk in the process. then my other 2 marines have respawned and joined me, and we finish the 3 turrets (one had been eaten). Sieges up, uh oh, here come the other aliens! The second hive had gone up during this time and one alien was fade. the gorge teleported in and started a web fest, and the fade popped in and was taking us down real quick, so i phase back and jumped into my comm chair. yay, jps done, hmgs too, not bad. so i hook myself up and head over to port. 2 clips and port is down, aliens busy finishing off our base in their other hive have no time to respond to my attack. My other 2 marines suit themselves up and fly into port with me. We all meet up and storm noname together, jps and 2 hmgs. the fade is waiting though, and we all die. So we managed to bring down port and had a base in sub, so rather than be boring and just turret-creep port, we suit up with jps and shottys and go for noname. Best...Ending...Ever. Hive goes down with our combined 30 shotty blasts (actually a bit less, already damaged from hmgs), and we are left with a fade healing on the 3 defense towers under the hive. The other 2 aliens being dead and the fade down to swipe, we shotty one of his defense chambers before running out of ammo. No ammo? No problem. We all three whip out our welders and surround the fade. He actually gets 2 of us before dying to the welder o' death. Lots of gg's after that round.

Ooh, MINE was cool.

It was a simple map, simple map of ns_hera.
Situation was, the Marines had level 3 weapons and level 3 armor (Res...) They had flawlessly secured Archiving. Turrets, everywhere, and if you tried to acid rocket them, an HMG/JP marine would fly up and shower you with bullets. At that moment, we really didn't think of Umbra, the team was fiercely individual, and we almost took it once but no one ever listened (including me). No one even had a mic.
Anyway, it looked pretty grim. Even though we had Data Core and Ventilation, those are like the worst 2 hives to have. They took Processing once, and sieged Ventilation to like 1000 health, but luckily our Fades saved the day. The Gorge secured the hive pretty well, but unfortunately not the resource nodes, and they were all quickly captured. 2 hives, Fades running amok, HMG/JP everywhere, in our last hive.
It was not good. I was still a Skulk, I kept dying, but I was trying to leap into Archiving to find a weak spot--perhaps a turret factory blind spot, or leap into phase and attack their base.
No luck. There was something magical, something that the marines used called teamwork that enabled them to thwart my phase leaps. Until ANOTHER magical thing happened, the Lerk flew the Gorge into Marine Start, and into the comm chair station. It was so quick, the turrets barely missed him. The Gorge quickly detatched and built OC's. There was no defense on the upper level except for an Arms Lab and Protolab, which wasn't really defense. Anyway, the Gorge built a bunch, like 4, and then plopped down D (we had resource overflow) No one noticed. HA Marines (Yes, HA!!!!) marched in afterwards and killed the Gorge and Lerk, who were killing the Arms and Proto Lab.
but they were TOO LATE! Buahaha! The idiot commander didn't relocate to Archiving, not even a CC! ANYWHERE! Now, our main target was the IP's in main base. We forgot Archiving and assaulted the IP's of main base. They were poorly placed, and there were like 5 turrets, and then Lerks ran in and showered umbra (team...work...?) and Fades swiped everything to their mechanical doom, except for the IP's. The Commander left osme leftover HA and Jetpack and HMG, so they were still jetting around, it was just a matter of killing them. Soon they were grouping up and attacking places. We really didn't care, and finished off the IPs. ZOOOM!!!! In a matter of seconds, 5 jetpackers flew into Ventilation hive and HMG'd it! Acid rockets, you name it, we were attacking the guys, but they all had 100 FPS or something 'cause they kept staying in the air and dodging our stuff! A little later, we took out 2 jetpackers and there were 3 left, but our hive was gone. They zoomed on into Data Core, from that little hole in the wall. Unfortunately, 2 Fades were acid rocketing from in there, and clawed them to their doom.
Now, they did an HA rush into Data Core, 3 guys, and destroyed most of the defense (WTH) I was attacking main base with another Fade, and we took it all out! it was all on those 3. They attacked the hive, sent it down to like 300 health! a GORGE finally got there and webbed them up, and we Fade clawed them to death. One guy got a Skulk LEAP kill, it was neat, and it was a long game. Probably in 1.03, pretty long ago.
I wish I could play games like these, but with cooperative teammates.

Man! There should be a way to record these games! And someone should build a time machine so they can go to the future and then come back to tell us if it's worth recording or not!

That Hera story is funny with the wall o lame behind the blast doors! LoL. Imagine being the marine reloading his gun after shooting the last skulk only to realise he pushed the button and this huge WOL reveals itself under the blast doors. LOL! I would run in circles and jump up and down in panic

I find tanith the worst map to have epic games. Marines almost always win . With their double res being so close to ms.

well there is a way to record the games...when you join a game, type in console "record <demoname>" and after the game is over type "stop" and miracle of miracles, you'll have a movie of the game!

anyway, back to the main reason of my post.

not too long ago i played a most excellent game on the map of bast. i was on the server with a couple friends of mine and were there to just have some fun, pwn some aliens, and have a good time. well, the game started, comm hops in, says "all to main aft! we relocating there, their hive is feedwater." so off we went, luckily this was a game with few, if any nubs, and it was a big one as well, like 20 people total. well, the game progressed with some aliens hitting us, almost killing us a couple of times, and us countering, then the franticness came, and it lasted until end game. well, they put up refinery with us still trying lamely to do some damage to them, about this time we got lvl 3 weapons and lvl 2 armor, with jp hmg. we flew on into refinery hive and started shooting it down. ended up killing it, but died on our way to feedwater, which, of course was followed by many curses and angry statements. well, soon after fades were coming again, comm scanned refinery and it was empty, obviously they'd put up engine, somehow...we had turreted up main aft and all that, i'm assuming they went through the vents. anyway, comm informs us of this, and we start to head that way, drop a tf, some turrets and a siege, we're constantly screaming and yelling at eachother to build this stuff to take out the hive, all dying and killing and just massive chaos constantly. basically we got the siege up finally, sieged the hive, and set up some defense IN the hive so they couldn't get it back, that was the last the aliens saw of engine room. at this time i managed to sneak my way into atmospheric processing(where the comm had been trying to get us most of the game). i found 2 res nodes. comm says "don't shoot those" drops a tf, couple of turrets which i put up almost all the way, and then a phase is dropped. about this time a lerk, followed by a fade come wandering by, i quick turn on the turrets, call for help(2 guys respond through the newly built phase), pwn the lerk, and the fade runs off, or redeems, don't remember exactly. comm then informs us we have ha hmg, and money to burn(now that we have atmos up and running). so he drops 5, get that 5 sets of ha hmg and welder, i of course get one. we phase back to atmos, and begin the short trek to feedwater(they had gotten refinery up again, so had fades again). this "short trek" became more like a epic battle of man and beast. after about 15 minutes of straight fade/lerk/skulk pwnage, and after losing 1 or 2 ha men(yes, only 2, amazing eh? ha pwns if you keep everyone welded. i droppped about 10 fades during this battle, and i have the demo to back it up!), we break into feedwater hive. at one point during this fighting, i must add, there is so much umbra hanging around the area that i couldn't see, not because of the lag, but because the particles were too thick to see through!!! well, once we get into feedwater it's about over for teh aliens, but being the sportsmanlike palyers they were, they fight to the bitter end, we kill feed, drop the res, phase, and move on to refinery. we wander straight into refinery, running into some roadblocks set up gorgy style(ocs, dcs, etc), with some skulk support, maybe lose one more ha(at this point it didn't matter as the whole team had ha anyway), and wander into the hive. we shoot it down with out too much trouble. amazingly a fade is one of the last aliens left(yes, even after the mass genocide we had commited earlier that game), i shot him down, killing him with my very last hmg bullet. get dropped by the last alien(a lerk) who is in turn dropped by one of my ha hmg brothers.

when all the dust settled, the game had lasted about 1.5 hours, with about 15 minutes that was NOT intense firefighting and killing. the most amazing ns game i've ever had the priveledge to be a part of, GG DEVS!!! i'm likin' this post as well, full of excellent stories. as long as there are people to play with out there, i will play ns! w00t w00t!

wow, those games totally rock.

I had 2 awesome games yesterday, it was a blast .

ns_hera: The game started with uneven teams, and i was playing on Kharaa. The marines relocated to processing (2 hive lockdown, sort off). We were pretty sure we cant do much now. I destroyed their 3 rt's. I said to our gorge, that he should try to build up the hive, because we had lots of RT's and even if the hive gets mowed down by siege, we can get some fades in action.

Slightly later, marines found themself stuck in processing, therewas nowhere to escape the fades, the both hives went down of course but at that point it didnt matter much. They did have HA/HMG and couple of times they tried to take down our last hive with JP/HMG but it failed . Kharaa won the game with 1 hive .

ns_eclipse: This was totally mad game, lots of intense fighting over resource nozzles, and such. We had maintance and computer core was on its way, but then marines arrived with HMG/HA/Shotgun & light marines (with upgrades), they built phase gate & tf, 2 sieges. "Damn, we wont go down! FIGHT!" someone yelled, all the skulks, (2) gorges (shooting web), lerks (with umbra) attacked them. Some of us died when the hmg started to spray bullets, but as one marine said "Omg! theres too many of them!" . Computer Core almost died before we got the TF down.

That single moment had more fighting than i've ever seen . It was the key victory for us, finally we took over eclipse & finished them off. Again a sweeet game!.

We pushed marines into Red Room, had three hives for a while, and couldnt finish them off for hours d;.

There was also a brutal fade/lerk/gorge vs 3-4 HA HMG battle in Cargo ;d
