<div class="IPBDescription">Annnnnngry maaan!</div>ARg well it all started I had the best game machine and it ran with 98 crashed alot but the games were stable... the norton anti virus quit working so I upgraded to XP and got it again... I fixed where it slowed down my stuff in game but it still does it on certain areas!! like a door or an elivator! So that means NS will kinda suck for me because I can't fix it I'll move the mouse and it will delay it by half a second... so it will totally screw ns for me.. I'll walk threw a door slow down and get shot... bLAH! any of you got XP that runs HL speedy?

i had a similar thing happen when i upgraded. before i could tweak settings it almost seemed to fix it self. that was freaky. and no it wan't an update. it tells me when it wants to update and non occured during that time. dunno if something else auto-updated or xp actuly fixed itself.

what render mode are you using?
D3D can cause delays like that. If youre running d3d, try switching to opengl. worked for me...
I dont have xp tho... But my cousin has xp and hl runns perfectly fine on his comp.

well could be several things, 1) upgrade your RAM, XP uses alot of this 2) if you are using a geforce or something, I know there is a refreshrate fix out there for HL for people using win2k xp (at least i thought there was, i'm starting to doubt) Anyway do a search on google for it d:/

I second Sinister's answer. I was having a load of problems when I first got a 3D card in my machine, back in the old TFC days, then I found out D3D is awful.

it all depends on the card you are using, and even the game/program , I ran unreal/UT in d3d with my old g200 and it worked fine, while openGL was really slow (of course g200 has bad openGL drivers), using my tnt i still run it in d3d, cuz unreal's openGL support isn't that good, personnally openGL and d3d don't make a difference in HL, tho openGL looks a tad better imo. IMHO D3D isn' that bad, all cards support it while not all cards support openGL (I think all current cards do support it, but it wasn't always like that).
