Huge Framerate Drop After A Format

Its magic!
Here's my problem

Yesterday I decided to clean up and format my computer. When I had reinstalled WinXP, I installed Detonator drivers '412.09_win2kxp' and SB Live drivers. Then I installed NS. I tried to run it in OpenGL mode, but for some reason it didnt work. I could've sworn I used OpenGL before I formatted. When I tried using D3D, and waited for 10 freaking minutes to wait for a map to load, I got an awful framerate of 5-20. I used to get a stable fps of 50. This happens at other mods as well.

I have a P3 800, 128mb, Geforce2MX, SBLive.
Anyone know how to deal with this?

Thanks in advance.

have you installed the latest motherboard bios and/or VIA 4 in 1 drivers (if you have a VIA mobo)?

Also, try rolling back to an older set of gfx drivers for the gf2 MX. www.reactorcritical.com has a stash from very old to very new.

I had just downloaded the 4in1 drivers. I have also downloaded latest Detonators, I'll try it after a reboot.

Oh for your information, the reason I didn't use older drivers are because the ones that came with my computer aren't winXP compatible. Or so it seems.

Well those 4in1 drivers are great! I now have a screen nagging me about having found new 'VIA bus master IDE drivers' hardware...
    Anyway, I'll try the game.

    [EDIT]
Direct3D ran at about 10 fps now, but OpenGL miraculously started working so I have a steady fps of 60 again. Thanks!

    Direct3D in HL *****
Anyway aren't those 'VIA bus master IDE drivers' and whatever supposed to come with the driver pack ? ( that's kind of the whole point with driver packs )
I use Via 4 in 1 and it works fine

    Right.
    Someone slap me.
It was Cheating-Death that caused those crashes. The only time I ran D3D it wasn't running :S
I formatted for nothing. All of my porn... GONE!

What is it with everyone and the format stick? Haven't you heard of a plain old reinstall? Just delete your Program files folder BEFORE you perform the reinstall. And make sure Windows overwrites, not upgrades your installation. No problems what so ever and no reason to format.

Don't blame C-D team for you being careless and ignorant they do a marvellous job for $0.

To be honest, I hadn't formatted in over a year, so it was about time. And reinstalling over your current windows version, without upgrading it, will work? Curious, I thought the only way to achieve was with a format.

I actually don't recommend upgrading older OS' to Win2k/XP, but reinstalling into the same OS (and immediately getting all your patches, hotfixes, SP's reapplied) is usually safe to do. A wise man creates separate partitions for his static data though, so that a format of C does not remove all his goodies. Of course, a wise man has backups on removable media as well...

But we are now off-topic. Let's roll it back onto framerates or let this thread die.
