Half Life 2 - What Next?
<div class="IPBDescription">What will happen to the original!?</div> Now that half life 2 is set to come out around september, when it comes out, what will happen to the original, i wonder how quickly it will die away!
Half Life and its mods carries many memories for me, from playing my first online game, to playing my first LAN game with my friends in secondary school back in the late 90s, now I am only 1 month away from finishing college and after that i have to go into the world of work
Its like a chapter of my life is over, and i certanly don't want the original half life to die on me as well
What are your thoughts?

but maybe HL2 sufferes from the bad-sequel-syndrome, not that i think so, but...
Yeah Half Life 3 has already been established, i wonder when THAT will come out!
But hl will probably go in the history books for being the most long-lived game engine ever. Can you ever imagine a new engine being popular for 5 years? Even though the graphics are out-of-date. Like now there is a better game comeing out every year but h-l is still number 1!
(If I was in charge of Valve Flayra would recieve 10,000$ check in mail with the code to HL2 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->)
no, because HL was MADE umpteen years ago. Old games work on Old hardware! Amazing...
The funny thing is though, HL2 will work on PC's that are 2 or 3 years old, and people are griping about THAT not being a big enough window of compatibility, but when HL1 came out it was lucky to work w/ a system 1 year old, as it was not nearly as scalable as HL2 will be...
I mean I played Battlefield 1942 online with Broadband and i get pings of 20, but if you join with 56k, u get pings of 400 at least, its just not on!
There are more 56k ppl out there than BB! Game makers seem to think that gamers only have broadband, especially Microsoft!
At Least nintendo have been clever enough to allow 56k ppl to play their games online
as far as i know Hl2 will have a min specs of 700mhz pIII , this is like playing HL on a 200Mhz pII , and the recomened will be 2gz thats like playing HL on a 1ghz +, and as for 56k iv been told that the multi-player is the most inportant thing to Vaule and they want everone to be able to play so i think 56k will be ok with it (im on 56k )
Edit: HL2 modles are about 3times as detailed as HL modles, if ur a modeler have a read at this <a href='http://dodstuff.houstondod.com/hl2modelling.htm' target='_blank'>http://dodstuff.houstondod.com/hl2modelling.htm</a>
Cuz my ATI Radeon 64mb DDR runs like a dream on Battlefield 1942, which needs a minimum of 32mb SD-Ram, but i tried playing it on a GeForce 2 32mb DDR and it lags a lot
Actually, there are more broadband users than modem users. If not, it's quickly changing.
maybe more gamers use bb, but there can't me more bb internet users than 56k!
HALF LIFE WILL NEVER DIE!!
I actually doubt that, I'm supposing half of the requirements for BF1942 will work for HL2.
PLUS dynamic lighting, bump maps and particle systems... i get 10fps on doom, if they made this thing run on my comp i would label them gods...
