<div class="IPBDescription">While waiting for 1.1</div> Don't jetpack rush, simply enough. My friends and I have been avoiding jetpacks when we play marines, and we play a little more oldschool. Secure at least one hive, save some res, do some upgrades, etc...

Since it takes aliens alittle longer to go fade, it works out quite nicely now. We generally end up having some nice long battles where the game could go either way. It is putting the fun back into the game <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (the fun that the jetpack rush removed).

    hmmm, most games i play end up as long game that can go either way. even with jp's. i think its fun whatever happens though, (less someone is cheating etc).

    admins putting gravity off is fun though, you try to shoot a oc and it flies away, :o.

    The JP rush is only an instant win if the aliens go straight for RTs and a second hive and leave their hive completely undefended (except for maybe 3 DCs under it.) If they get OCs and a lerk or two, it won't work.

    It definetely felt cooler when having almost every upgrade + jps, we build a tf siege outside their hive instead of flying in.

    Try telling that to the thousands of powersilo, viaduct, waste handling, reactor room, satcom, archiving, ventilation, data core, noname, subspace, and refinery hives. Well, former hives.

    Aliens themselves want marines to end it with jp. There's getting everything against 1 hive aliens, it's kind of mean and cheap. But a lot of aliens already give up with jps and if marnes try to do anything else they just whine to end it.

    There's nothing I hate more than playing a semi-long game only to have it won by ONE person with a JP+HMG.     It's so possible to win without jetpack rushing, I almost never jetpack rush when I'm commander and I win plenty of games.

    I agree totally. I prefer playing sans JP for the early portion of the game. Give the aliens a chance, and the marine game becomes so much more tense :-)

    I don't think it will be so much of a problem in 1.1 with the improved Lerk flight dynamics.

    Ahhh, reminds me of games where I try to get whole teams to kill hives, give up, get out, and shoot it on my own, get back in, and continue commanding.

    Aliens just say lame.

    And theyre right..... i agree with them... JP HMG shouldnt be used in the way it is now.... should be more for mobile firepower rather than 1 man hive killer.

    Heh. The old JP + HMG rush doesn't exist anymore. No word on what exists now ;D

    Once I was going for the jp/hmg rush, and I accidentally RESEARCHED HA instead. Immediately, I still researched JP, but since I had a lot of res, and the aliens had been pushed back into their hive (maintenance), I decided to try a HA push. I equipped 4 mariens with HA, and 3 of them with HMGs, and sent them off to the hive. At the hive, I put down an armory, and before the armory was finished building, the hive died. This was without medpack spamming too. Yep...it was fun.

    It isn't amazing VS fades, that's why many comms get jetpacks BEFORE the aliens have fades, hence the problem.

    Now, some good players are perfectly fine with jetpack rushes, because they can take down jetpackers. But there's two problems with that... It isn't guaranteed that you can, like all those hives listed (I'd like to see someone stop a GOOD JP from killing refinery), and secondly, on pub servers the odds that people are able to do that is minute.

    Pull out the HA, and let the game go on. There's a chance you won't win (and for a while, you probably won't as people get used to using HA again), but you'll have alot more fun. It is alot more fun to hear on the voice comm "Just killed # fades!!!!" than to hear the ping of death, IMHO.

    While trying an HA push isn't going to win you any clan matches, it's sure gonna be more fun on pubs. Something about a group of 4 or 5 HA/HMGers with a GL tossed in the mix pushing towards a hive, welding and shooting is just awesome.

    Sorta feels like how NS should be <i>all</i> the time. You rely on the guy next to you to weld your armor back up if you need it and to cover you while you're reloading, and he relies on you. It's not really the case with LA/LMG squads, there it's pretty much every man for himself. You actually need (gasp) teamwork for HA.

    HA/HMG is the way i run things <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> most players say "no give me a jp" and die a few mins later come back and do the same thing. but the more experience players sometimes ask for jp but mostly HA/HMG/welder (and yes you can tell) as its huge armor upgrades. also its much easier for the comm to give MP to a slower guy than a zooming out of control jp'er <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> . HA/HMG is the way to go.     I usually end up dumping JP kits like that simply because my marines whine for them so much. I'd much rather send out a good chunk of HA troopers with gear. Works much better since they last longer. Plus with HA I see a little more teamwork...with JP kits...I think I see maybe 2 of them together...at most. It would work great if i could get 3 marines with JP kits in a hive...wouldn't take any time for it to go down.

    HA is wonderful, but takes longer. As long as you can keep the marines' short attention spans occupied, you can let loose a lot of HA mayhem.
