<div class="IPBDescription">whats good and bad?</div> hey,
I started hosting a server the other day for some maps that i built and i was getting 90-95 fps, is that good or bad?
then today i hosted and the highest i could get is 65!!! i messed around with a lots of stuff, but i don't know what caused it to drop soo much!! is 65 ok or should it be at 100???
Is there gui admin for HL? or something that will show me more then the generic HL DS??? that is simple to set up, i don't want to put the time in setting up some big server...
Thx!

Does anyone want to venture a guess on why i lost all that proformence? i did upgrade the server from a 1.03 to .04, im guess that is the reason.

Many Win32 Dedicated servers seem to be stuck at 64fps for some reason. Opening up a web browser on that PC and browsing to a Flash animation frees up the number limit and you get a FPS jump.
There are also metamod plugins that increase you FPS at the cost of some processor ticks. (don't go there, it's another HolyWar waiting to happen)
What the collective experience seems to say, despite the vocal opposition of some, is that the FPS of your server really doesn't matter that much. Like Zerogreat said, anything over 20 is good, so don't sweat it.
Anything about a gui dedicated server? or something with stats, players, teams... blah blah?

We're talking about server FPS, but thank you for playing. Rod Roddy, tell our contestant what consolation prize he's won!
Give that boy a lolly pop! <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
haha anyways, i can get around 90-96 fps on peek hours and 50-60 during night hours, so i think it is just my stupid WSU network messing it up... it works fine though the pings are all fairly low..
The only thing i need to do is get some plug ins and meta mod or something, but i hade messing with all that ****.. there should be some server fer starters or something, i don't have time to set it up <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

<a href='http://www.hlsw.org' target='_blank'>http://www.hlsw.org</a> is pretty good. Just set up RCON and you are good to go.

Oh wait... NM im stupid... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Here's a simple formula to tell how an FPS will affect ping:
1000/<FPS> = latency caused by server FPS
For example, 20FPS on the server would raise all client's pings by 50ms. Anything above that and you're getting into major high-ping zones.
Needless to say I wasn't the most popular admin that day <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
