from a scientific point of view, then there is the eternal nothingness coming from the impulses of electricity in our brain stopppping, or in the slightly more farfetched view, maybe our memories/dreams are stored in something outside of our body, with a psychic link or something, so when our body passes on our memories are still there, still being acessed somehow, thereby allowing us to dream.
On the even more farfetched, maybe we just turn into a being of pure thought/energy, and go to some other dimension or plane of exsistence (kind of like Space Time Six in "The Dig")
Maby it's like the sixth sense, so we keep on living but we don't know. Man I could be dead.
But really I think that we are no more, I don't believe in anything after death. Religion was just made up because of the human nature to fear death. So before I die I wan't to do something that people will remember me by, maby cure cancer or something.
I think you will reborn again, but as a different species. Or if you are lucky you will be a human if you were a human when you died. I don’t think it will be black, as you would close your eyes. But that’s my opinion; I guess many others have other different opinions.

yep, we were born into the grave. In the grand scheme of the universe, our lives mean nothing, I don't care how important you think you all, in death, all are equal.
reincarnation would be nice, but i think all this religion stuff was made up so people would feel more comfortable in dealing with death. that's just my opinion, so i'm not saying it's right. that's just the way it appears to me.

i think most people are scared...especially if they don't want to accept death. i think people who are religious welcome death. well not welcome but are more at ease about it.

but you can't be sure when you die...i'd like to assume we'd all die a very, very, very old age and lived a good long life...but i guess and think no matter what, we cannot prepare for it.

venmoch - i used to think like you, venmoch. until the thought of dying and being non-existant forever, crossed my mind. i used to think:
if i die, i die. who gives a flying f***!? if i die, i want to die saving someone's life! YEAH! that'd be cool...
but now that i think about it once ur gone you can never come back, and you'll be forgotten over time. ur existence will be meaningless. which i guess makes me more appreciative for the time given to everyone, but i wish i knew what happens when we die.

Consciousness and ego are things only living beings experience, so basically when you die the energy that makes you up is simply redistrubited, meaning it still exist but you aren't aware of it and don't care.
PS: as far as being remembered goes, as it stands there are people who aren't even dead yet and are forgotten. To be remembered you either have to kill more than 20 people or make more than 20 million dollars. The legnth of time you are remembered goes up with the amount you are above 20.
