For all you HALO fans, HALO 2 is comming out with a graphic engine that makes it look something more similar to DOOM3.(They say) (Heh but we all know the only reason Halo went from PC to console was b/c MS needed a cool game concept for their console) Anyways the new assault rifle looks pretty nifty.

That pic really doesnt do it justice. I have a larger more detailed model on my PC but I couldnt find the site where I got it from.
I gonna try to do somthing with the new rifle you see when you scroll down but Since Im a newbie modeler perhaps someone else should try too.

This suggestion creeps up about once a month. No one has bothered to do it yet. If you go back a couple pages, you can see the same request. And no, we haven't forgotten.

The reason the model polycount's aren't raised so much over the original halo polycounts are cause they're using Xbox's bump mapping ability to add in extra details, thus less poly's but more detail. At least that's what they said in the EGM halo 2 interview.
Take the ATV screenshot for example. With pure polygons, those tires and the seat cushion are actually just flat things, with the bump mapping, the ridges become actual ridges.

Actually, they're not upping the polys, they're reducing them. You see, Halo 1 used bump mapping on the environments only, Halo 2 will use it on EVERYTHING. If you've played Unreal 2 or UT2K3, you know how good this looks. Basically, you get better graphics with no effect on performance. Oh, and in the Halo book, if you'd read it, says that the Mark V MJOLNIR armor the Master Chief uses in Halo can only be used by the Spartan-IIs due to the nature in which it amplifies strength and speed. A liquid-metal layer (like the T-1000) amplifies every action the Chief makes, but it can't be scaled down. Only the Spartan-IIs with their enhanced reaction times and titianium bones can wield the suit successfully without killing themselves with their own movements. Anyways, I don't like the look of the Halo 2 rifle, but it should be mighty useful for popping Covie heads in the sequel that will be better than any PC game thus far (except maybe NS, who it will be on par with) <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->. If someone wanted to make the best looking gun I've ever seen in a game, then they'd make the assault rifle found in UT2K3.
