or the lack thereof
I remember when I used to join servers, commanders would do perhaps the most stupendously stupid, or amazing things. It was a time of experimintation and fun (sounds like the 60's...ahh nastaelgae). But NOW marines eject an experimental comm within three minutes of the game. This, for me, has taken a huge element out of the game; discovery. It is these people that stick to THE FORMULA's, JP Rush or HA Rush, that ruin NS for me.
For example: One round I was commander, and I was in an interesting mood. So rather than a predictable win (JP/HA) I decided to do something a bit...interesting. I had my friend sneak into the enemy hive (During that tenative stage where Marines secure nodes) (I pinged it to make sure it was clear), and build a comm chair and 3 respawns. Now I really do NOT know how the aliens didn't realize this was happening, but they didnt. Anyway, I recycled the respawns at base and they all started to respawn IN THE HIVE. By this time Aliens were pouring into their hive to save it. I thought it was a SURE victory (seeing as how we outspawned aliens a great deal), but my seemingly fantastic marines seemed to think otherwise. They had two people hit eject, I was out. They put another fellow in and recycled everything so they could redo the round, because my plan was "DESTINED TO FAIL." They assumed that BECAUSE things did not go exactly as they were used to that it could not succeed. Now this plan does have its flaws, but in it in essence was quite unbeatable. Therefore I can only begin to wonder why these NS 'veterans' are so bent on formulaeic games.
*Wags fat finger at silly people*
anyway, not sure the purpose of this post, more of a rant i suppose, but i am quite peeved, to say the least, about the state of the average NS player as of late.

Oh yea, I remember the purpose of this post; If you could all just PLEASE post your bizarre strategies that would do wonders for me. I mean right now I'd even use a strategy with a 10% win rate.
<-------Is desperate; quite.
Anyway, I posted a reply to someone with a similar thread talking about a gorge breaking from the norm. I'll post the same advice I gave him. Play on the same server(s) and comm whenever you get the opportunity. When you are comm, do what everyone expects you would do and do it well. Win a few games to win the confidence of your marines, then try out all the weird and wacky strats. Hopefully the marines will trust and respect you by now and you can get away with trying different things. Most people eject when a comm uses abnormal strats not because the strat is so bad, but that it indicates the comm doesn't know what he is doing.
why would they eject you if you were going to win?
people suck.
Its cool when they dont eject you, and you pull a good win off. Makes the people who were whining look like asshoels.

Thats actually really helpful, thanks.
Oh, and annoying kid, it was a decent sized game (8 people each side) and 4 rines were not in the hive. They didn't think it could work (although I explained it to them over mic) so they took upon themselves to screw it al up.
And damn, boy. You loves your rabbit.
When it comes out I'm going to build lightning TF's from one side of the map to the other and zap the poo outta the aliens. That oughta be worth a few laughs.

Spawn run shoot hive
Spawn run shoot hive
eventually the hive goes down.
After a failed atmos relocation I noticed two people were in engine and one in refinery. I droped them both a comm chair and some Infantry portals, then later res towers and armorys, and eventualy a phase gate between them.
It was a VERY intresting game. I had to spend every res I got dropping welders, replacing turrets and pinging stuff, so couldnt save up for final gun upgrade or mass HA rush or anything.
The aliens also used bizzare tactics. The gorge got above our refinery base and made it rain OC's until some one shot him. If anybody wants to see it I will post a demo...

Don't call those lamers Veterans =D
I'll agree with you, I dislike JetPack rush and I absolutely HATE Heavy Armor. One day I remember STD-Slash pulling that same exact Infantry Portal rush on us poor aliens. You know after three rounds we were watching for it.. so then he didn't relocate... or so we thought.. like 10 minutes into the game (rather than immiedietly) he did it to us again! That trickster Slash!
