<div class="IPBDescription">...free link inside,</div> <a href='http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/' target='_blank'>Dosbox</a>, a Dos emulator, haven't tried it....yet. - but it looks pretty good, at least it supports a lot of games(list at HP).
anyone else know some other DOS emus, considering this doesn't work. and what about some names of good DOS games(list gametype, game concept, maybe even rate it 1-10).
i want no links to abandonware sites, or the like.
there's also <a href='http://www.scummvm.org/' target='_blank'>SCUMMVM</a> but thats only for lucasarts adventure games.

you have to make a shortcut to dosbox, and add the parameter
-c "MOUNT c X" (everything included)
where X is the folder you want to use as C: in the emu(i use a games folder under DOSbox itself), or you can mount the folder manually everytime you run DOSbox. - thats the only thing i've done and it works.
also remember to configure the games in the emu, and keep the folder names below 9 characters.

Can you run the games satisfactorily off floppies? (I assume that you can't use the hard drive at all if you've got any NT variant, since DOS doesn't grok NTFS.)
Here's what my DOS sound drivers "says" it changes, (onboard from the P4S533; the C-Media CMI8738 chip):
Device Number (hex)=05
Vender ID = 13F6
Device ID = 0111
PCI Config Base IO (hex)=A800
PCI IRQ (hex)=0A
Set SB Port to I/O=220 IRQ=A DMA=1
Set FM Port to I/O=388 , set MPU401 Port to I/O=330
So when it comes to settings, I'm assuming they make the most sense as Sound Blaster 16, Port = 220, IRQ 5 or 7, and DMA = 1.
Thus far, the only games I can work with perfectly are Out of this World, and Star Control 2; I should add that both don't ask for details about your sound card.
I have been unable to run One Must Fall: 2097, nor Abuse with any sound; LucasArts games were running with partial sound, (but thanks to ScummVM, I finally finished Sam and Max this morning. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> )
Then the real "advanced" DOS games like to get smart. Tyrian gives me the bloody Runtime Error 200 crap, (tried patching, which fixed the setup.exe, but NOT tyiran.exe <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> ), and Crusader: No Remorse is just... whacked; not a clue on that one.
It's a hopeless cause. Every time I've tried touching DOS, I think I've slightly screwed up the computer in the process. ScummVM is definetely promising, (finished Full Throttle as well today, or at least as much as it currently allows <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ), and I guess I'll give DOSBox a shot.
i think winME has the same troubles as Win9x, when it comes to DOS games, better than XP but still it can't run some of the better games.

btw, you guys might want to check out <a href='http://www.freedos.org' target='_blank'>www.freedos.org</a>
DOS is being developed under GNU now =)
very handy if you need an fdisk version that kills linux and ntfs partitions or a version of choice.com that works with nt.
@Th@: Yes we could run ME, we could also play with the idea of ME:
1) Sucking for general purpose (eats mem etc)
2) Nolonger being supported by MSoft for a reason <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
3) having a chance of ME eating (literaly destroying) a HD
I think I pass <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
hmm
/me tihnks about givving DOSBox another look (hehe, if I can get it working on this comp (is a small one with TV Out) mmm playing DOS games in lecture halls, /me drools)
Or you could poke yourself in the eye with a stick.

I was talking about the original DOS disks that DOOManiac was talking about... the ones that came far before the rise of NT. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> Interesting that people are re-making DOS in their own image, though.

no DOS drivers on creative's site... :( They used to have em there too...
Some dude at underdogs put this as a sticky:
<a href='http://www.wcnews.com/webmirrors/tech/gamefaq/noremors.html#top' target='_blank'>Origin - Tech - Help - Crusader: No Remorse</a>
Haven't taken a look at it too much, but I they mention about that Fatal Error crap, so I think they're might be something there.
In the meantime, I'm STILL looking for someone who has the CD version...
<a href='https://sourceforge.net/projects/vdmsound/' target='_blank'>https://sourceforge.net/projects/vdmsound/</a>
works very well for me, of course if you need to slow it down, that's another issue.
i was i still had an old 386 or 486, so i could play my games flawless. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

Yeah freedos is cool, starting to look alot like linux though with those new gui's
definatly something to watch out for.
I think you guys should be able to get the 9x drivers to work under dos btw.

Should of made a mention about this site:
<a href='http://www.driverguide.com' target='_blank'>DriverGuide.com</a>
Very good site for drivers. Use the name "drivers", and the password is "all".
This might be the one:
<a href='http://www2.driverguide.com/uploads/uploads16/30706.html' target='_blank'>SounBlaster Live! Drivers</a>
-they're pretty much all independent though, so don't sue me <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
there is... you need to go to (i think) <a href='http://www.xcomufo.com' target='_blank'>www.xcomufo.com</a>, and download a file from there... then run that exe.. works a treat, ive had it working om 3 XP based machines...
