best hints and tips for a realistic atmo
I am currently working on a new map. After my first map attempt, ns_genesis, I have learned a lot of what not to do and how to best go about a feel and a layout. First, I want to know what you think of it being my first map and if I am doing a decent job, and just hints to help with flow, feel and lowering those dang r_speeds.

Second, as I already stated, I am starting my next map. Its going to take place in a large spacecraft dedicated for the purpose of returning dead TSA marines remains to their familes back on earth.

I have some basic ideas..but I keep comming to standstills. One of my major problems with mapping is that I can never seem to find textures that really fit the feel I go for. What are some of you best textures for a gritty engine room, a clean crew quarter area and a cockpit area. I will post ss as I update. Right now I am trying to go with a very industrial metal feel to the entire ship....I just hope I can convey it better than I did with some areas of genesis.

Well, as a minor update, my rr is slowly taking form and starting to get that feel that I speak of, I intend to use it and caged as my main inspirations for this map. I am going to get a little wacky and try out a bunch of different entities and see what all I can do with it. I really to make my readyroom seem alive, but cold. I am going to try and work with the particle system(something I did not use in my last map, as I am still learning it).

I havn't yet looked at the map, but whn you post maps in the future for critisism it's a good idea to include some pictures in the post as well, and certainly make sure your .bsp is zipped up before attaching it.

While this may seem obvious, try to rotate the textures.

Look at them from just more than 1 angle.

Sometimes I also have problems with texturing, and something that usually helps is to take a break, read a book, watch some tv.

    Believe me, it does help.
