Zerg Drone - Can you dig it?
Ok then heres a final shot taken in half life model viewer. I just did a quick compile as a world model and I'm fairly happy with the results. A bit hefty at 2648 polies and two 512*512 skins. I'll be sending it over to Hudson after I do the skeleton and he'll be doing the animations. anyway what do you guys think?

::EDIT:: Ok, I lied, I'm still tweaking the skin but it's 99% done. here's an updated shot of the skin ::EDIT::

TBH... it's a fabulous model and skin.......... for UT2k3. 2600 polys and two 512x skins? /: That's really heavy for the average HL-running computer. The high-def pack Ichthys is only 1600, and you seldom see anything else on the screen while you're fighting one of those.

2600...OMG...ok you can get rid of ALOT of uneccesary polies(even tho my computer can take over 4000 ^^), ALEAST try to make it under 2000 0_0...Start with the head...when I look at the flatshaded version I see alot there. Also leave the 512x512 skins, I dont think there should be much of a problem there.

Very nice model and skin Good work.

i have to agree that u might want to lower the poly a bit, but it's your model , it's up to you.

on the other hand, ppl shouldn't get too concerned about that, since the hydralisk has over 2100 poly. and in a game u will see a lot of occasions that aliens make a hydra charge. but u only see one or two gorges in the entire game. if ur machine can handle packs of hydra running around on your screen at the same time and did not slow down, then i think it should have no problem with this drone model.

OMG TEH POLIES!! (that's a phrase I've scattered liberally among some of my concept drawings too, so I mean nothing bad by it)

However, looking at the flat-shaded pics you posted, there's a lot of detail there that's really not needed. It's an excellent model, but it's going to kill low-spec computers.

Omg teh hydralisk is 2100 polies? My computer runs so smooth I thought it was just low poly ^^. And you have to remember, 1.1 = lots of viable gorges.

Hack down the polys and maybe it'll be viable... and i'm sure you could size down the textures with minimal loss of detail.

nice, i suggest you drop the polycount to around 1800 if you can optimise that far, also the skins a bit bland, try and add some organice detail like veins and mottles maybe (just a suggestion) remember that most of the models details will not be noticed when the skin is on.

here's a few suggestions: (in order of importance)

1.) release
2.) release
3.) pat yourself on the back for being one bad@$$ mofo....

Don't you dare touch the mesh or listen to these bozos.

This thing is rad. Skin is perfect. You're good at paying attention to detail.

Hudson's got it right. There's only 1, at most 2 gorges on a (good) team. So for that reason alone, poly up all you like.

Keep the polies! I don't give a damn about other people, I want detail for once! Excellent work.

Just a reskin to be like in the game. I'll be releasing a pack of models with the in game colors one all the stuff is out. Purple is the color you play in the campaign so I thought I'd start there.

That's beautiful! We wants it! High poly is fine for me!
Nice job indeed.

The HD pack is included with Blue Shift. If you haven't bought BS or Op4, go get BS - at $15, it includes BS, Op4, *and* the HD pack - quite worth the purchase, IMO. BS received mixed reviews, but I quite liked it - especially the beginning areas.

Very nice model, like others have said, cutting poly counts would be nice. The only problem with having a gorge with that high of a poly count is they build, meaning that they will be around structures alot being extremely hard on older systems.

I found Blueshift to be pretty good, though I didn't need a HD pack and got one so I am even more pleased with it.

Make a release for strong PCs (high poly)
And make a release for crap/old PCs (low poly)

=P
heheh

My pc is crap, but I can still use very high pollies w/o much of a problem.
