Mute does not currently work or work well in NS as of now. However; I am told it is now properly working in 1.1 -- What to do with players like that? Well, the first thing is not to publically cast humiliation on the person by telling us their name/wonID because it's really not right. Second; I'm not sure, just try to drone that person out or ask them to stop politely.

Politeness doesn't help much against people who try to annoy. In my experience, it's the best to ignore them, or, should an admin be around, kickban them commentlessly.

He was doing it on purpose and that is why I publically shamed him...

On the map previous to this one he was on the alien team and he did that CONSTANTLY throughout the entire game... we asked him to shutup and he didn't... the admins wouldn't kick him until he actually did it to them as marines the next round (as seen on the demo)

AND YES I did mute him... I just thought he was such a lamer to to maliciously annoy everyone by exploiting the fact that most people don't know how to get around the bug whereby you can't mute...

    HOW TO MUTE IN NS

    -go to console.
    -type toggleeditps
-you should now just have the cursor on your screen.
-hit tab to view the scores, click the speaker.
-left click open and closed the menu to remove the cursor.

    I often find it fun when people play music <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
What really annoys me is people talking some odd language which noone else in the server understands
    hehe
And sometimes im not even sure if THEY know the language or if they're just doing it to tick me off

ive seen music in a server once, it was cool and we all danced in the ready room for a while

but some other time there was this guy who was blaring loudly a sound clip of a hitler speech and wouldnt stop, all we could do was vote_kill him a few times. then i quit cuz i couldnt hear the enemies footsteps!

Use the search at the bottom of the forum to find lengthy threads about how to mute people. It's not that hard, and it's *very* useful.

I have the sound selector, but i'm tuned in enough to understand when it's hilarious, and when it's annoying.

I've had plenty of situations, where the entire readyroom was dancing to my James Brown bootlegs <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Music can be funny... but in this case it was bloody annoying.... it wasn't even music... that's why I put the word in quotation marks...

Watch the demo and you'll agree, nobody could dance along to that racket... not even moshers! lol

Sorry for such a stupid question, but how do I play the demo?

Unzip the .dem file to your 'ns' directory and then while in NS type in the console <b>'playdemo 1'</b>

Music can be nice sometimes. It's a fun way to relieve the tension of a long game. But only if the music is used appropriately.

Like this situation...our team had basically lost, and all there was left was one lone marine, hiding in a vent. All the dead marines were watching him, when someone starts playing "Can't Touch This". Everyone on the marine team was laughing, and the aliens were wondering why 3 people just said "lol" at the same time for no apparent reason.

On the other hand, something like Pee Pee Boy's crap drilling into your ears nonstop can ruin a good game, because you can't hear anything until he's muted, and even then, he's flooding the screen with crap about kettle chips and fruit punch.

I wrote an AdminMod plugin to take care of this type of thing. It allows an admin to turn off a player's voicecomms. Nutshell version, it runs "voice_enable 0" on the target. They have to reload HL to get comms back on. Anothe fun thing it can do instead of muting them is to turn their "echo" function on. That way THEY get to hear their music too.

Fun for all. The idiots get what they deserve.

What was the command for that echo thing again ?

    voice_loopback 1

I use it constantly so I can monitor my own speech. If I can't hear or understand what I'm saying, it's not very likely that other players will either.

    voice_loopback 1

this will echo everything that comes into your mic back into your speakers/headphones. There's a 1/2 second delay or so to make sure you don't get a feedback loop. It's really annoying, but also a good way to test your mic and see if you're actually broadcasting.

Enabeling it on mic-spammers usually is enough to shut em up. For those that it doesn't, use voice_enable 0. They have to quit HL and restart it to re-enable voice comms after that.
