Karnak Pre-alpha Download

It's almost not quite done
So, after many, many hours, ns_karnak is nearing the almost not quite done stage. Almost all of the corridors are in place, and nearly all of the rooms have at least some stuff in them. Once I've finished putting all the rooms together, playtesting can begin in earnest. Yay! God forbid, that could be as soon as a week or two.

So, in the spirit of incompleteness, I bring you the latest build of Karnak.

If you don't already have the Wad files listed in the directory, you'll need those too. And the minimap sprite goes in the ns/sprites/minimaps directory of course. At the moment the level uses the ns_lost environment map, so if you don't have ns_lost, grab the zip with the skybox and put the pictures in the ns/gfx/env directory. If you don't feel like downloading all that, there are also a lot of pictures on the site.

So, should you have the patience to download all that crap and run around my level (bless your heart), I'd really appreciate it if you could give some feedback on how the level is progressing. Things like layout, lighting, performance, texturing, overall impressions, etc.

To keep you from commenting on things I already know about, here is a list of the known issues:

Two of the light_spots in the Missile Room don't work. I added actual fixtures for them to shine out of and of course I forgot to move all the entities down, so 2 of them are inside the fixtures. This is already fixed in the current build of course.

The scroll textures on the generators look pretty awful right now. I probably need to add another layer with the same texture and a different scroll direction.

There is only one vent right now. Others will be added once the layout is finalized.

No weld points right now. I'm open to suggestions as to where those weld points should be.

If a room is pitch black, you aren't missing anything. There's one room on the west side and one on the southeast like this. The southeast empty room is probably going to go because of r_speed issues.

Quite a few textures are misaligned. This is more prevalant in the less finished rooms obviously.

Cryo Storage Hive will probably be redesigned to improve performance and make it less ridiculously easy to jetpack. The room outside it (Cryo Reception?) will probably be retextured as well. I don't like that texture set.

So, here it is (almost not quite). Tell me what you think.

So what files do we download? ns_karnak_13.zip?

Yes, that's the main map download. I just whipped up a quick html thing now, so you shouldn't have to download things straight from the directory list anymore.

So, nearly 8 hours and not one single comment? Not even a "U r teh suX0r!"? Really, if no one cares, there's no reason for me to work on this at all.

After downloading almost 10 mb of texture and otherr stuff I finally could play that "almost not quite done" map.
    That needs a change.

    Nice basics.
Map looks good in com mode, while the average player always misses details.
    Your windows are great.
    Layout looks fair and nice.
