Just played the demo. I looked up through Google and found a console command that changes the timelimit from 7 minutes to over 150, makes it a lot easier to get as much as you can out of it.
Yes, the cat does exactly what I thought it does. However, to use it as a silencer you can't kill it first, you have to pick it up while it's alive and sitting in place (sneak up from behind and just walk over it as if it's an item). I could only find 2, though: one in the house of the guy who sells smoke-able items, and the other just seemed to run into me (I don't know where it spawned from). Alternatively, you can find the catnip in the map; I'm not sure how to use it because I consumed it myself on accident (it puts everything into slow motion temporarily)
The AI for NPC's (dogs, cats, and humans alike) is average: sometimes smart, sometimes not.
As for gameplay and violence, the 1st time I beat it I actually didn't even pick up a weapon. Never went out of my way looking for one. I just got the milk, paid the cashier, and went back home. My 2nd time, when I found that the shovel can be used as a weapon, I had a cop chasing me; I just stood still to get handcuffed, the demo told me "if you buy the full version, you could break out of jail now," and that was it. It's fairly open-ended, and perfectly beatable even when you play less violently than most people would. I'd actually say that "going postal" actually makes the game harder. I didn't like the guns at all; I'm not a guns sort of person when there's alternatives.
Which leads me to my final point: the fire effects are the most realistic I think I've seen since Max Payne, and those were often scripted sequences. Forget the molotov cocktail; get the 2 gas cans in the map, start making trails, light one end on fire and watch the flame travel to the other. My parents (for good reason) never let me play with matches in real life, so it's fairly amusing to me.
[Edit]Addition: remember that if you ever accidentally catch yourself on fire (or a person already on fire runs into you) you can put the fire out. Unzip your pants (default key is 'R'), and hold the fire button; I found it worked most reliably when I aimed straight up or down. Remember to zip it back up when you're done, or the police will complain about you strutting your stuff on the streets in public.
For those of you who haven't played yet, no I am NOT kidding about any of the above. [/edit]

I downloaded the demo yesterday and tested it. Pretty funny but not worth the money. The idéa was good, that you can do whatever you want... And I like that stuff. But I dident like the weapons style. The people tolerate like 3-5 bullets in the head... you can shoot them in the leg too, but they will not lose more health or less. And have you guys tried to kill the immigrant in the shoppingmall? He is like a boss, You can shoot 50 bullets in his head without dying and you can hit him 150 times with the spade. But with the shotgun you can blast his head of with like 3-4 rounds... heehhe!

Yes, I agree that the guns don't seem to have enough "oomph." That's why I liked the alternatives so much. Molotov cocktails, gas cans, your pet dog (train it by dropping enough doggie treats for it to like you; when I had it following me, the moment someone tried to shoot me the thing pounced)
As for that command everyone's talking about, I got it from www.gamefaqs.com:
Go into the Console (~ key, nothing we're not used to) Set Gametate Demotime 9999
You may or may not have to enter the code "SISSY" first, it's what enables other cheats. Quite a few of the cheats listed on gamefaqs didn't work for me; I would've liked more gas cans and couldn't find more than 2 on the map.

The hunting rifle is ontop of the building across from the store you get the milk from. It only has 5 shots so use them wisely.

Ok I found the hunting rifle and the cat nip(took me a while), I know where the grenade is. Once you get on your first telephone pole, go to the right as aposed to the left, where you get the hunting rifle. The grenade is on the second telephone pole.

From what I've read, the cat isn't an actual weapon. Nor is the "cat gun" a weapon that launches cats.
Instead, the player character can use a dead cat corpse "forcibly applied" to the business end of a rifle for use as an informal silencer.
Don't quote me on the above, though. I just installed the demo, I haven't played it yet. And no, I don't know if it would work in real life, and who in their right mind would want to try such a thing?
