Can't Play Online.
I just got access to a cable modem and just installed my Half Life (G of the Y Edition) and i put in my legitimately purchased CD into my legitimately purchased CD Drive. I put my legitimate Serial key into the stupid orange box and start to play my legitimately purchased game. Well, I get ready for a night of fun filled alien blasting action when WHAM! a big orange box pops up and says "Invalid VALVe Serial" so i click ok, thinking it would bring up another menu to input a serial number in. Well...no can do. I saw someone else had this problem but no one seems to have it otherwise. I tried to remoce it from my computer, reinstall it and i remove everything affiliated with sierra from my computer. I reinstall Half Life and go to start it to get that stupid box to come up but no. It doesnt come up! What should I do? I can't take the game back, it came from Best Buy (place of no returns) and i dont have the receipt. (the same message comes up when trying to play NS too...)
EDIT:..i guess i left out that i installed it on a friends computer after i installed it on mine....

I am actualy guessing that you actualy put in the OpFor or TFC CD Keys by mistake ;D
it is located in:
(or somewhere near)
MyComputer\HKEY_CURRENT_USSER\Software\Valve\Half-Life\settings\key
to get at this type regedit at the run line
you can also simply search ussing regedit for Half-Life or Valve or Key

oh and there is a good chance that this will not fix the problem, I periodicly get told my CD key is invalide, try alot of diff servers and come back

Edit. BTW There was no key for TFC or OpFor. there was one Cd key on the jewel case for the actual game.

Anyways, my point is... you never know if your CD key is safe!
HL CD key gens are also out there and they do work
I find this a horrible practice (Primarily b/c I get 'your HL cd key is in use' so I can't fuggen play)

Actually, were safe... For now. Keygens don't generate valid WON CD keys, only valid for single player.
However, there is this program that generates random valid single-player keys then tries them on WON. Our CD-keys are not safe after all! But the chances of this working for someone, and getting your CD-key are thankfully low.

hehe
And what's an UPC code ?
You can get a new HL CD (with CD key I think) by sending them your current CD + like $10
go to their webby and look around and you will find it
I could buy a new game for that...
hehe
