Just Commed My First Game

How did I do?
Well overall it was a defeat, but it was nearly victory!

The map was ns_bast, we managed to secure Atompheric Processing, Engine hive and Feedwater hive (yes it was a two hive lockdown). But too bad, the aliens managed to destroy our IPs and our observatory, so no distress beacon. We tried to reloacate to engine hive but I was the only marine left and upon my escape there I got bitten to death. Overall I think I did a good job for being my first game.

Good. More practice and you'll win

yea its a common mistake to lock down both hives and leave your base relatively undefended, ive see it from both sides. when your team is working really hard to keep the hives while comm upgrades it leaves the base open for attack. this is why if you go for the 2 hive lockdown you should upgrade after youve secured your own base with a TF and another ip.

same thing happened to me on the same map in one of my first commed games...

i guess i was so excited that we had all this stuff locked down, i overlooked placing an additional CC and IPs in a hive we held... now i know thats always a good thing to do.

    or relocate to another hive...

first of all, the way its been done on pubbies is IMHO pretty boring.
Even if the whole ship belongs to the rines and they can build wherever they want to, but cmon ur supposed to have ur own base .

The other way (wich I like most) is to have a 2 hive lockdown, then lose ur base and relocate to a hive with succes .

Its more of a challenge that way

I think I've got the tactical aspects of what to do in a game pretty well, but I don't really wanna even learn commanding too well because of the tediousness of giving people waypoints. I could comm pretty nicely if I could just use team chat like "2 of you go check out hive X" and therefore give some independence to the team, but NOOOOooo, most often all I get is "gimme a waypoint!". I find the comm screen a bit of a drag to move around, then find 2 marines, select them and then guide them to a waypoint, only to find out that one of them is a solo hero and won't help the other etc. etc. Therefore when I play marine I usually stay as a "player" marine and mostly try to instruct the commander if there's a need for it.

yeah I think the comm should have a rightmouse button function like in C&C wich makes u scroll tru the map faster, or is this already implented? (cuz it doesnt work with me )

just use the minimap to scroll around. click and hold and move your mouse over the map.

A pretty good job, for your first time commanding. Next time, though, you need to make sure that your base is always defended, be it by turrets or by marines. That's something that is paramount to the success of your team. If your important structures go down, then your team takes a severe blow.

For example, if the Observatory goes down, then you can't make any phase gates until it's rebuilt. If the Observatory AND your base's phase gate go down, then the aliens have effectively cut off your main mode of transportation. That's why the defense of your base should always be a top priority for you, as the commander.
