Water jamming?

I was thinking about NS Maps including water, and the thought came to mind..Bob and buddies can probally fight under water..but when it comes to marines, Will their weapons jam under water or will they function perfectly? I could see a gun like the shotgun jamming underwater, definately, and the LMG and HMG would probally do the same, depending on firing mechanisms, but I would like to know, from the playtesting staff, or flayra 'n staff, will there be certain guns jammed when being fired in water?

If so, will they jam like in other mods (only if your head is under water) or will they actually jam like REAL guns (if that section of the body is in water)

    um..dood..this is a Total Conversion. The only thing they can't change are how graphics are viewed and very few other stuff. (Max heights allowed, etc.)

    yeah, and in the orignal hl game a lot of the guns didn't work underwater.  It's nothing new.

    But in HL, the weapons stopped working when your head went underwater (I think).  It may not be possible to have weapons stop when the *torso* is under water... the only way my limited knowledge sees is if you add a brush ~3 feet tall directly above the surface of the water - when their heads goes under *that* brush, the gun would stop working.  But beyond that, I don't know how you'd code it.

    That would look odd if you couldn't shoot if you head was ~3 feet out of the water.  Because in First-Person view you gun would look perfectly fine... but wouldn't shoot.

    Yeah, that would look odd.
    I would do it like in normal HL, when your head is under water your gun doesn't work.
    We guys are used to that as we all played HL, I think.

    And it would be unrealistic if a LMG, HMG, etc. would do perfectly under water. That brings the thought:
    What weapon would then work under water? (without knife)

    The only marine weapon that works underwater is the knife.  All alien weapons work underwater though... <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    There are three different water heights already in the Hl engine, for your feet, your waist and your head as far as I can remember. Making a weapon not fire when underwater is pretty simple stuff, and I'm glad to see Flayra has already thought of it.

    Think about it, though, in real life you would hold the weapon up to your shoulder, effectively making it the same height as the head.  Therefore, when the head goes under, so does the weapon

    why not have marine guns work underwater? we are on the verge of having guns that are fully functional underwater (www.metalstorm.com , read there PDF files on there SMG model)  so why not in the future?

    I still prefer water jamming guns.
    But I agree that you hold your gun at the shoulder, so at the same height of youre head.

    The knife vs. alien weapons idea is fine.
    So the water is a deadly place for all the marines. Even more deadly then the land <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
    Besides that: there are not many maps that have water in them, are there?

    One last point: I would dissable the builder's acid spit under water. As IMAO it would be odd that a thing can spit a ball of acid under water without letting the acidball spread about 2 inch after it leaves the mouth of the builder. But I would include the webs under water, cause as nature taught us, there are animals in our surrounding that can make webs under water. Some kind of spyder uses that to transport air under water.
