Granted, my computer did most of the work automatically, and I all had to do with the mac was reconnect it and restart it. But that's not the point! COIL! NO CLASSES! DON"T PAY FOR CLASSES! Really, if you're decent at computers, all you really have to learn are the cisco commands and maybe a bit of networking info...but don't pay any money for classes. If you need the help, pay for some books, but classes are just swiping money.

1) Buy my brother's P3 800 from him.
2) Take out ALL the pieces: processor, HD, vid card, CD-ROM drive, CD-R drive, RAM, etc.
3) Take all the worthwhile pieces out of *my* computer: sound card... um, sound card... did I mention the sound card?
4) Build (with help from my l33t friend Stan) a dual-P3 with all the trimmin's.
5) Install Halflife. (:
sounds like the only thing you didn't replace is the case. depending on what pets you have and where your comp is you could of just ripped the HP case apart and done to get what you wanted to salvage out of there and put it together in some kind of card board box. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> The case is just a handy place to mount buttons, drives, PS, keep components tightly in and protect everything. Actuly i've got the side off my case right now to help with circulation. It's in a tight corner so the fans can't do a good job.
well MY (note the self importance of that "my") best l337 PC engineering skillz was actually making a CC (Car computer) Rather than replace my current high quality non-mp3 player (competition quality with all the extra doodads) with an inferior mp3-player for the same price, I built an mp3 player out of my old PC.
I took my old p2 400, kept the motherboard, LAN card, vid card, memory, 30gig HD, and sound card, and built a box out of an old brief case. I used a cheap power inverter hooked up to my subs' amplifier's power supply to power the thing, and rewired the on/off switch next to my equalizer by the steering wheel. I also took apart one of those cheap ### 3 button mouses, bought an extender for the cable, and made a custom fiberglass (many thanks to my bud Chris for the l337 fiberglass tools and info!<!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo--> box for it to be mounted in the ashtray slot (who smokes anyways?)
I had my good buddy Java (he probably did more work with this prog than I did building my case) write me a prog where as soon as win98 booted up, it would launch winamp, and start playing it. He also wrote me a program where a 3 button mouse would:
left click play/pause
right click stop
scroll up (right the way it's mounted): next track
scroll down (left the way it's mounted): previous track
middle: nothing
and that's it. I probably spend about $5 in my fiberglass supplies for making the ashtray mount and $5 for the extension cable for the mouse. building the box took about 2 hours because of issues with grounding the motherboard, and molding the ashtray insert took about 45 minutes. actually installing it in my car took about 4 hours as I had to bury the wires and run the audio and video cable seperate from the power lines and lots of re-routing through the A pillars so I didn't get interference in the signal. not too bad for a former college electrical engingineer <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo--> (f34r my l337 m4th m4j0r sk1llz!!!!!111)
and adding mp3s and editing the play list I have to do through a LAN- just take the briefcase out, and hook it up. I DO have a vidout on the briefcase to hook up to my TV screens, BUT... at the moment I only use the video to see if the case has crashed. <-- has yet to happen

I have the vaguest feeling that this is in response to Coil's comment. I don't know though.
1) connected through a Virtual Private Network to my school's network
2) downloaded and installed network-accessible-only software for software backup
3) backed up all my personal files onto the school's server.
