Sorry don't know any thing to reduce the pain
Seriously though, I don't know of anything to heal a broken fingernail other than to keep it clean and dry until the skin toughens up. Once that happens, it won't really hurt anymore and the fingernail will grow back normally.
At least, that's how it happened with me. I ended up losing a few mm's off the end of a fingernail, and it hurt like hell at first. Once the skin toughened itself up, it was just fine while the fingernail grew back over it.
1) disinfect it somehow
2) if I have any, use some cream with a high percentage of vitamin E or aloe vera and put it on the pad of a band-aid
3) put band-aid on finger. anything to keep stuff from directly touching the exposed and sensitive area.
I absolutely demand that you get a 2nd opinion or more before thinking that my advice is acceptable; these kinds of things are most certainly not my forté. Hope it gets better.
THe best advice I can give is use hydrogen peroxide to disenfect it, put some kind of first aid cream on it, then a bandaid.
Then drink the alcohol....
Hell, why stop at just the one finger? If you take 'em all out in one swipe, there's no chance of breaking a fingernail on that hand ever again!!

and yah, all you gots to do is wrap some gauze (I say gauze b/c bandaids suck for fingers and guaze is softer)
no need to disinfect (unless you broke skin, but then thats just SoP)
yah, gauze, its soft, its clean, you can wrap fingers in it
(hehe, I have thumb nails that are about 1/2 an in long after the thumb end and I as of yet have gotten lucky with them breaking, they always seem to break cleanly and right at the tip of my thumb so I come out with normal nails, yah I am wierd )

actually its my i k , and secondary fire finger so its hard to type. It feels better today though. The problem was it didnt cut off, it just split the nail real hard so 2 pieces were in the air.
