<div class="IPBDescription"><3 for max300.</div>You know sometimes you get those crazy feelings that you can do anything you want? Today i got home and decided to play some DDR which i normally do, and i decided i would try max300. I had previously beaten it only once before, and i was convinced it was a total fluke anyway. So i tell my sister to grab my digicam and record this, because i had an odd feeling i was going to pass it. I end up passing it...but not only that, with a high B, nearly an A. I calced it on aaroninjapan and i ended up with 78.93% (80% required for an A) This totally made my day, as max300 is a 10 footer, and considered one of the hardest and most stanima draining songs in all of DDR, if your unfamiliar with it. I played 2 more rounds of it later that night and ended up with a lower B, and a C. I'm definitely getting better. ^-^

Here's a link to the video my sister capped. She started recording almost RIGHT after the freeze but the camera only allows 20 second clips. Btw, i did screw up on a few of the steps right after the freeze, my timing was a tad off, that freeze is total hell. Also, this video is -NOT- sped up, altered, fake, or whatever, in any way. Max300 is called 300 for a reason. 300 BPM = fast, very fast. :D Oh, and yes, i did use a mock bar, out of a chair, because i totally don't have the stanima and balance to do it without as of yet, although i'm working on it. :D

Either way, that totally made my day, and i can't wait till i can A it regularly. ^-^ - <a href='http://fistsofra.com/~for_storm/max300afterfreeze.AVI' target='_blank'>Link to the video.</a> - Enjoy! :D

lol SF. There is a freeze step that completely stops the song about 2/3rds into it. My sister started recording a tad bit after that. ^-^

    Edit, for SF //

A freeze step is a step where you need to hold the button(s) down. There is a step at the middle of the end of the song where you need to hold the left and right buttons down for a bit. The one in the middle slowly slows down and stops at the end of the freeze step, and then starts back up again at 300bpm, from 0. It can catch you off guard very easily, since you need to step right after it, and anticipating the start up to 300bpm again is pretty tough to time right. It's essentially a hold step, and a pause in the song.

(In Darth Vader voice) Impressive...most impressive.
(back to normal) Normally people seem to look down on practices such as "bar hugging" to keep your balance, but max300 is one of those songs where you expect the machine to yell at you "are you <i>nuts?</i>" when you select it.

Question, though: do DDR versions on consoles have the same step patterns as in the arcades? [Read: can practicing/memorizing the step order at home help prepare you to show off in public?]

Yeah, just so everything is clarified. Most people look down on using the bar, because its more of a crutch then anything. However, any of the max's or the survivors (minus trip machine) are VERY fast and intense songs that require extremely fast movement and really good balance. Using the bar on songs like that is usually accepted because of the shear difficulty of the song. (All of the are 10 footers, the highest difficulty in DDR as of now) However, as said, using the bar on any song other then that will usually have people calling you a noob or whatnot, although in my opinion, whatever helps you learn the song is fine.

Also, yep marik, the home versions have the EXACT same steps and everything as the arcades. So you can practice at home all you want and then show off in the arcade if you like, although i dislike people who show off and brag about their skills. I'm not even that good at DDR compared to alot of people, believe it or not.

You could learn to be a sick drummer if you can do 300 BPM with your feet. Just check out Today is the Day...

Really? Sounds like good news. I've always considered buying DDR and a dance pad thingy similar to yours for the computer (I've never owned a console) just as a more fun way of doing cardio workouts at home. My main reasons against making the purchase have been the costs and fears that the pad will wear out too quickly.

But more importantly, the reason I was wondering if the steps were the same is because I have a good 3-4 friends who like DDR as well, but dislike having to do slower songs just so I can play with them. (I'm only about half as good as you, 4-5 out of 10 feet difficulty I can pass). If everything is the same like you say, maybe this is an option for me to get practice so I can get closer to the skill levels of my buddies -- by now they do 7-8 footers on a very regular basis.

Yep, thats completely realtime, even if it doesn't look like it sometimes. You need to be able to move pretty fast in order to pass max300. As said, Max300 is 300bpm with a ton of 1/8th notes. The streams are total insanity. I wish DDRFreak's step chart for it would work, but it currently doesn't, so i can't show you exactly what i was doing. ^-^

Real quick explanation Sycophant. There are four arrows on a pad that you stand on. On the screen there are streaming arrows that when match up to a certain point on the screen you match that arrow with the one on the pad with your feet. Once my local arcade puts the unlock code in the the 7th mix and i spend a few hundreds dollars trying to learn unlimited. D: And..well, once we get an 8th mix here, doh. I seriously doubt i can do LoM though, 333bpm is just...too fast. I'm not even sure about unlim, 320 after the freeze = insane. ^-^

(btw, for anyone who isn't familiar with the harder aspects of DDR. Legend of Max is the fastest song currently, which streams at 333bpm through the -entire- song. And believe me, 33bpm is a HUGE difference in speed.)
