<div class="IPBDescription">?</div> Not sure if there are any threads already on this but i thought id address it and see if there are. I began playing the first version - very cool game, nearly all the time marines won (unless u had a really good alien team) I have downloaded the new version to find out its very different now.
1) Aliens always win - i havent played a a game yet where the marines have won - usually they get slaughted in spawn or bout 5 mins after the game starts (which makes the games really fast so u dont really have a chance to get into it)
2) Marines are far too slow, they may have been a little fast in the first release but inless u intend to release marine models with zimaframes (bad spelling) attached i think it should definatly be changed..
These are just 2 things which i think need changing for the new release, and there maybe other issues which turrets and resources for the marines - but i think it is far to easy now for the aliens to win - and its not even a challenge - if u go marines for a challege the game wont last longer than 5 minutes.
Also i know this must get asked alot but is there a release date for the new version? And is there a list of issues being tackled by the new version?
Anyway thx, love the mod but balance between the teams is a serious problem atm..

If the question keeps getting asked ... then it's because someone STILL needs to know! I hate that attitude, stop throwing poop around please!
Now, as for balance.
Everything is changing for 1.1. Flayra is aware that there are intrinsic balance problems with 1.04, and he's doing his best to fix them for the goodness of us all. For now we must wait and see what goodies he has in store for us.

Learn to bunnyhop. Problem solved!
Official line from devs that is actually semi-truthful:
"Aliens have an advantage in pub games with poor organisation, Marines have the advantage in clan matches"

Okay guys, time to stop scaring the newcomer.
The simple answers:
No, no release date has been announced other than "When it's done." When it is announced, it will most likely be announced by MonsieurEvil (who handles public relations), Flayra, or someone else around their level of authority. People like playtesters have a non-disclosure agreement, so if you hear a "release date" from one, chances are they are either joking or need to be hunted down.
The NS devs are more professional than many of you may think, so yes, they are organized enough to have a list of "issues to be tackled." To my knowledge, this list is not for public viewing, and my assumption is that it never will be in its entirety. The most you will probably see is a "1.1 changelist" released to the public before release of 1.1 itself. (At least that's been the procedure before every other official public-release version update.) You'll see such updates on www.natural-selection.org and/or www.readyroom.org, and no amount of bribing or begging will get me or anyone else to tell you when that may happen.
To the rest of you.. gj in representing your community.. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
Its funny that all the people who flamed me where all registerd after me, and all the people who didnt where registerd before .. not sure what that means but i just noticed that <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
The basic problem with NS is that the current tech tree means both sides upgrade at different rates, if the aliens get the second hive they get a sudden boost way past anything the marines have for about 7mins, if the marines can hold off (and have a good comm) then they can probably get ha/hmgs and start fighting the fades, however with level 3 weapons and armor it goes back to the marines favor (only slightly).
Anyway the question I still havn't answered (i've played a lot of ns and thought about it a lot), is would NS be better if the tech tree was more balanced, on one side it would reduce one side being forced to wait the game out while the others spend their time getting upgrades/evolving, but at the same time I think it might take away some of the stratergy, u would be getting upgrades just to keep track with the enemy rather than get better than them, this could "dilute" the intensity of some battles (ie. the battle for the hives, espically the second one, as it wouldn't be quite so critical).
Anyway I think the key point I am making, is that while I like the deversity of the two tech trees it does mean that the aliens are terrible without a second hive, the marines only have to capture it to prevent the aliens from gettings it, although they really only need res nodes (i've seen a game won without taking any hives at all). So the aliens are dependant on capturing hives and res nodes, where as the marines only need res nodes for themselves (yeah i know they need to stop the aliens from getting hives). This makes the game unbalanced in the marines favour, they have a second option if their main base gets wasted early on, the aliens dont.
Ok thats it I've had my rant, I'll stay quite about this topic now as its obviously been talked to death.

Sorry, but its simply not true. If you are playing with very very new players, and ONLY new players, its true. If you play with at least some experienced marines and a decent commander, marines will most likely win. In fact, in a lot of games i play now (pub mind you, NOT clan) marines almost always win, because most people know to use a HMG and JP now, and how to live long enough to get them. If aliens always win where you play, find a server with more people, and more experienced people, and you'll notice aliens rarely win.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->2) Marines are far too slow, they may have been a little fast in the first release but inless u intend to release marine models with zimaframes (bad spelling) attached i think it should definatly be changed..<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
They walk too slow?? Their movement speed is fine, and they are SUPPOSE to walk slower backwards. Changing the movement speed would seriously hinder balance in the game in favor of the marines (which as I said, win most of the time right now as it is with non-noobs). Faster marine movement=quicker moves on hives=aliens can't spawn in fast enough to fight the marines back=marines win 99.9% of the time.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->These are just 2 things which i think need changing for the new release, and there maybe other issues which turrets and resources for the marines - but i think it is far to easy now for the aliens to win - and its not even a challenge - if u go marines for a challege the game wont last longer than 5 minutes.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Turrets are fine, in fact, they are probably a little TOO good in mass numbers, sure 3 turrets doesn't do squat, but 10 murders, especially with lvl 2 weapons or higher. The resource model favors marines a LOT, especially with a lot of people on the server (10v10 or higher). Its far too easy for marines to JP rush and win everygame now than it is for aliens to get a lucky rush and win. If you die as marines 5 minutes into the game...your marines need to learn to expect the rush, and camp the hall/doors until most of the alien team is dead and they can safetly build or move out. Moreover, they need to learn to shoot. But all that comes with experience.
The game is actually pretty highly unbalanced in favor of the marines in most aspects. Yes, the aliens have the advantage with 5v5...or if they can get 2 hives ASAP (aka, before marines are smart enough to have gotten jetpacks), but a good marine team can keep the aliens at 1 hive, and therefore, beat, because 1 hive aliens can't do ANYTHING against teched marines.
Hope this responce fits your needs better. All I can say is find better servers, with better players, and get a bit more experience before you post about needed balance changes. Happy Gaming.
2) To all the "let's talk about balance" people - respectfully, no. It's been discussed to death, and 1.1 is going to be a completely different beast. So let's just leave off for now. Trust me... if something is unbalanced, Flay knows about it by now.
