I Can't Remember The Name Of That Old Game...

Top down spaceship shooter, about virii
So there was this computer virus on your computer and the folders on your computer are levels. You fly around the level collecting uninfected files and shooting the infected ones, and the filenames come right from your harddrive.

There were also special weapons you could buy for your ship, most memorable for me being a grappling hook, where you could grab other ships and drag them into things.

There were different gangs and pirates, you could race and have duels.... Ringing any bells? I'm looking for the name of the game at least, a download would be super duper cool.

I apologize in advance if this creates any unwanted nostalgia and you can't remember the name like me.

    It sounds like Virus

Yes thats what it was called. The unique thing about it was the fact the battles were based on your computer!

No I didn't play it I just remember looking at it and thinking "What a cool idea!"

I remember Virus. I also remembering the half-star (out of 5) that it got from CGM (or, as it was called at the time, CGS+)

There was this thing called "Happygame" that, when you ran it, would simulate the deletion of your entire C: drive, shutdown, errors, etc. It was basically an advertisement for Virus, heheh

yes i vaguely remember something about this game. it was called Virus made by an Isreali company and it was basically like Descent and the levels were contructed based on your folder layout and decorated by the files you had in those folders. So pictures you had in your computer would become texture maps for the walls of the rooms in the game. i always wondered what would happen if you had a porn folder on your computer. also i always wondered what would happen if you lost in the game; would you have to format your hard disk? heheheh.

I don't know about that vipr, but I found what I was looking for, Operation: Inner Space. This was a sweet game back in the day, check out the demo, it runs on my WindowXP box so its still compatible:

Is Virus Free for download? I haven't played it and it sounds like it's worth a shot.

Yer I played it concept was good
But takes forever to load a game with a comp over the specs at the time software only
Controls are wrong (me want mlook)

It’s got strategy/fps in it building a factory defense system to build attack vehicle etc
And you go through your computer collecting “bytes” to build more stuff
