I think I've finally found a good place to say this:

WTF?!?!

Didn't you read that story on PA? The free internet has ended. Its only fair that we get made to see the ads. I mean, we are using their bandwidth and therefore their money. The only way they can recoup their costs is from advertising money. I would rather gork at a thousand ads then pay any amount of money. Next time you see an add just think of it as easy money, paying for your visit with a few milliseconds of your time.

Of course it's the hard truth and reality. The internet has changed. PA wasn't the first place to make note of it... I remember reading an article on avault.com a couple years back that predicted this exact thing. "Enjoy the free internet while it lasts..." it said. Mainly due to the merger between TW and AOL, or something.

Though... it's still immensely frustrating when you see the next sign each month... regardless of the fact that it's inevitable.

Banners, flash ads, etc are fine by me. Pop ups/unders are what I use ad-blocking for, and only for that.

Am I really the only person who has no problem with ads, pop-ups, pop-unders, and the like? I mean, I completely understand that these sites are trying desperately to stay afloat and survive. I'm not saying I've ever clicked on the ads. I generally don't buy things over the internet. But I completely sympathize with what they're trying to do.

The only thing I have a problem with is when it tries to install something on my computer. That is going too far.

I have to agree, we need ads to keep lots of sites alive.

Even though I never buy stuff because of ads like those, there has to be some people that do it, or else there wouldn't be any point paying to have those ads up, would there?

Hey, if a site isn't going to let me view it, fine. They don't get my attention. I'm perfectly willing to pay for high-quality sites and content, ala, Salon.

The ad-blockers will be powerful, there's no doubt. Let the war begin.

You know, I would be glad to turn off my ad-blockers if there was some sort of policing that went on with the ads. Since there aren't really any rules or laws concerning how they can market their product... it's just not safe anymore. I think the government needs to play a small hand in all of this, or perhaps the anti-virus software should detect when something is trying to be loaded onto your computer. I'd give McAfee a big wet kiss for that.

In general I have nothing against pop ups and the like, BUT, my computer has this problem about doing two things at the same time.
so, usually when a pop up appears, it makes my computer freeze for like 10 minutes, and if i'm lucky I can go on afterwards, BUT!!!!!!! also usually there is atleast two ads, so after the first one freezes my comp the other one crashes it, so, no more surfing for me

well, i wouldnt mind seeing the ads all the time if these ads also payed for my internet connection.

i only hate pop-ups, i dont mind a banner ad or two as they can be ignored easily.
