<div class="IPBDescription">For layout purposes</div>Copy your map to /valve/maps

1. goto your hl dir
2. start hlds.exe
3. In hlds, change to your map by typing ``map yourmap''
4. start hltv.exe
5. in hltv type ``connect localhost''
6. start your hl client and goto lan game
7. Join the HLTV game (the green one)
8. when joined goto console and type ``dev_overview 1''
9. take a screenshot of your overview.
10. sit back and eat some chips, or maybe some cake.

forgot to mention, when viewing the HLTV overview you can move around and zoom in and out to get the text out the way. I forget which keys but keep pressing them till you find them  <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Primary Fire and Secondary Fire are zoom-in and zoom-out. Your Forward/Backward/Strafe-Left/Strafe-Right will scroll the window around.

yeah, what i founf was that you dont need to do all that HLTV crap, at least last time i tried it, as long as its base half life and you start it by typing "map mapname" and cheats are on.

so you don't have to type in -game nstr ? because I had to do that for CS.(-game cstrike)? <!--emo&:0--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'><!--endemo-->

hehe, i feel so special being in the mapping forum FAQ <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

but greedo, maybe you should tell them that they need to start the map with "map mapname" in the console and need to have cheats enabled etc, else you will get people asking why when they type in during a LAN game they started it doesnt work.

I really don't see the benefit in these overviews myself.

The benefit is being able to see a completly accurate overhead layout of your map with lighting and liquids that are visible.
It's very good for demonstrating your design and planning changes.
