you just respawned. the marines are taking a key position (likely the 2nd hive) and u have to get there FAST. every second counts. What do u do? either:

a) Rush right when u respawn getting there quicker and blocking their attempts to build. However, ur weaker without any evolutions.

b) Evolve to get carapace, making u last longer for the assault. BUT in the time it takes to evolve they might have finished a phase gate, mine field, etc.

(assume that its too difficult to form a big swarm group)

    get cara......
cant stress this enough, and its doubtful that they will have a PG up in the time it takes to get cara, and if they can get a PG up before you can get cara, your screwed anyways ^_^

Get carapace. You may want to skip your movement or sensory upgrades, if time is important. Skulks are worthless without carapace, unless the marines are worth even less (no aim).

Always take cara when you got DC. No matter what is going on, double hp is always worth it.

Well iam not sure is level 1 cara so usefull, if you need to go somewhere fast.

I get carapace no matter how urgent it is.

If I get there without carapace I won't be of any use anyway.

Only time I don't get cara is if there is a rambo inside the hive when I spawn attacking someone else. If he is attacking me I just run away and get carapace and come back.

As Stoneburg said, the only time you don't get your upgrades before moving out is when the hive is under attack and you're being spawn camped (in which case you should be holding down your movement keys so that you "hit the ground running" as you spawn). There's no point in arriving at your objective only to be unable to deal with the threat because you're not upgraded. It's not the same thing as armoury humping because armoury humping doesn't really offer any special advantage in individual skirmishes.

Anyways, the time difference is really very small. The chance that there's a marine just starting on a PG when you spawn (so that if you take cara he'll be done by the time you arrive, and if you don't won't be done yet) is very very small. It's far more likely that they'll have set up (or be in the process of setting up) the outpost by the time you get there, in which case you have to kill them first anyway.

    Think about it this way.

If you get carapace, you'll have enough armour to get in there, take out whatever marines are just finishing up the pg, and then take out the pg yourself.

If you don't get carapace, you can get in there while they're still building the pg (although the time to get carapace isn't really all that much), but with hardly any armour you go down in a few shots. Then while you wait to respawn, pg is up, reinforcements came through and they just finished building a tf and turrets.

travel to the location u need to be..

then u can decide if u have the time to get cara or not.

If you have 3 movement chambers up at the time, I see no reason not to pop off a quick upgrade to Celerity after you get your Cara. The time spent upgrading the movement ability will be easily made up by the speed in which you get there.
