Who woulda thunk it?
Playing on ns_nothing, aliens started in cargo bay. The marines had taken pretty much the entire map and both other hives due to their mine spamming abilities. Marines have full upgrades, everything researched, so many ways they could have killed the aliens.

What did they decide to do?

Heavy armor/welder rush.

With only 8 defense chambers and 8 offense chambers in the hive, you'd think the aliens would have fallen pretty quickly right?

Wrong.

In comes 7 or 8 heavy armor welding marines with full upgrades.

Their opponents - 8 carapaced gorges.

We held against the first wave fairly well, only maybe 3 gorges had died. Soon the next wave of heavy marines came, still with welders. After welding and heal spraying each other for a minute or two, the server crashed.

Needless to say, we didn't win the game, but it was certainly a moral victory.

The most fun as an alien is to put the marine's overconfidence of themselves back in place, regardless if it is a lost game.

When the 8 people got armed with HA/welders, I pushed my record demo key, but, much to my dismay, I actually pushed a key adjacent to it.

Heheh, I was the last surviving marine on the first welder rush. In a feeble attempt to keep me alive, the comm spammed about 150-200 res worth of healthpacks as I stood still since by then we had 450 res. I must've only lasted 10-15 seconds, but it felt like an eternity as I welded gorge after gorge. Unfortunately, it's rather difficult to kill gorges supported by 8 d chambers and 6 fellow gorges while immobile (for movement outside of the medpack monsoon would mean instant death.)

It's so unfortunate I didn't get the demo. It was even better than the time where the entire 9 players of the marine team spawned into the ns_bast vents, with panicked screams of "don't use the armoury! the onos can hear us."

Hmm... he was talking about plain gorges guys... a force of healing + attacking units. That is a HA/Welder and Healspraying Gorges. Both force both heal and attack... that and only that.

Though if the gorges were not at one hive, the gorges would win easy with some webs and babblers... but then you'd need to give the marines some hmg too. Though I think in that situation it can go either way.
