Uneducated Commanders

Educating new commanders.
Over and over and over again, I see this commander and that commander strugling to figure out which hive the aliens are located in. I read thread after thread where people say you can figure out what hive the aliens have by their attack routes or how long it takes for the aliens to attack. Well I say...

BY GOD ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

Let me educate you uneducated commanders out there, there is a SIMPLE, EASY, and resource FREE way to find out what hive the enemy is in!

Step 1) Go to the left most hive location.
Step 2) Place your cursor over the res node for that hive location.
Step 3) LISTEN for the tell tail alien res node sounds, if you hear it, BINGO THAT is their hive, if not got to step 4.
Step 4) Got to NEXT hive location, continue from step 2!

It takes a SUM total of 30 seconds to find out WHERE the alien hive is. It takes no res, no guessing, and little time to do it. So stop thinking about what directions the aliens came from, stop wasting res on pinging at the start of the game, and STOP asking a marine to go look!

I can't believe how many people DON'T know this little bit of info, read it, learn it, live it!

This will be removed in 1.1 i think , the commander should only be able to hear stuff near his men.
as for the way u have said this , u must be soo "elite" that u can work it out for ur self, so do so and inform ur team.

Another way to find it out (if commander is fast enough) to check those hives immediately when game starts and listen to those *click, click, click* sounds, when skulks are coming from a starting hive and preparing for rush or securing a second hive.

But usually i got at least one rambo in my team, who will search the hive and hunt the fatty, even if i tell everyone to stay in base.

In most games aliens approach the marine spawn immediatly, making it easy to figure it out, confirming by sensor sweeping the hive is usually res well spent.

Listening for the hive is an old trick, but might not work in 1.1

Bah , this trick is plain lame. If you want to know the hive location without taking risks , ask the devs to put a big hive icon over the starting hive , so you don't have to spend theses precious 30 seconds...

yea Flayra has said before that you will not hear the hive or other alien sounds for this reason unless your men are there or you ping them... i cant find the quote anywhere but i know he said it. so this strat wont work in 1.1 sorry d00dz

The easiest way is try to place a res node on top out potential alien starting res node.. If it's red, u know a res node is there and since it's that early in the game it must be their starting hive.. If it turns green, DON"T DROP IT, just move onto next one.

res node check is the most reliable, the listen trick can be fooled if the aliens get to a hive before you listen as you'll hear noises and presume its that one or have two to choose from.

Personally I dont think its that useful, if you want to reloacte you have to gamble and choose a hive in the 'round start up'. Taking the time to choose by finding an empty hive loses some of the surprise and every second decreases the chance of a successful relocation by a large amount.

I can't think of any other reason this is useful.

If I'm not relocating I'll still need obs, and I'll probably scan all the hives for a gorge.

it shuldnt take more than 12 seconds to identify the hive...
