Yeah, I know it works in another HL mod Day Of Defeat, there is a map called Flash2 and it has multiple wads (4 seasons) and you could replace the curretn wad and all the textures would change in the map.

So you can get to play in winter, summer etc...

It works as long as the textures isnt in a wad and not in the bsp.

Unfortunately, someone tried this a few months back and found that a lot of (maybe all) the NS maps use wadinclude, i.e. they have some of the textures included in the map's .bsp file, so you can't change them.

Which isn't to rule the idea out completely though - you'd just have to be a little more careful about what you edit so textures still tile properly together. I remember I had a similar problem when I tried doing it with CS. I had a snowy de_dust, but dust2 had textures included in the .bsp so I'd end up with snowy floors and deserty rocks.

I think this is the wrong forum to be discussing this. You'll probably get better responses in the mapping forum.

I didn't even finish reading your post, Jamil. But I'm guessing it was negative.

and what good did that do? Any? All you're doing is starting crap. And for what reason? Because you have some grudge with him? He was saying that this is the wrong forum to be posting a mapping/texture suggestion. There is no negativity in that post, he is clearly trying to point the poster in the right direction. So, maybe, wanna act a little more mature?

I mean hell, if you're going to start talking crap, at least have some kind of purpose aside from, "because he told me to get off my lazy **** and learn to model instead of making suggestions."

Agreed. I'm seeing more and more of these little flamefests, and quite frankly it's getting pathetic. Nobody cares who's flinging what at who, and it's all really childish.

A few months ago attitudes like this would have been shunned by the community. Now it seems more and more people are slowly getting into this "wah-wah I'm an elitist" phase. A shame really. NS is one of the few, great mature HL communities out there. Don't tarnish that.

Now, back to something a little bit more on-topic, I know there was an attempt back when the Alien Queen Hive was in development, problem was on the two maps tested (bast and eclipse I think), eclipse was completely borked in maint hive because all the textures were in the .bsp. If anyone can find the .wad pack that was being made, well, kudos to ya because that would be an awesome thing to see.

Jamil's post was not only perfectly civil, it was right on the money. I think if anyone needs to take a look at their attitude, darrenjm, it's you. Kuban, no one should get attacked on these forums - not even those who attack others. Leave it to the mods.

As nice as changing your levels textures would be (heh, you could have a bit of fun during various holidays), using -wadinclude makes it so much easier and less hassle-free for mappers dealing with several WADs at once. For submission for an offical level you have to either -wadinclude or have just -one- WAD, named ns_yourmapsname.wad. It would be rather tedious to go through the several WADS you are using and collate the textures into one WAD. Much easier to use -wadinclude.

That reminds me, I have a question about wadinclude. Does it include the entire wad file your textures came from into your map? Or only the textures that you actually used in your map?
  • KageKage Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2016Members
-wadinclude only includes textures that were used in the map.
