<div class="IPBDescription">Its a Zoo in there...</div> I look through it once and awhile... Usually find something that cracks me up <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Some ideas that come through there havent even been thought out completely, Or they havent taken into account the HL engine limits. I do however see the occasional GOOD idea, that is really worth implementing.

This forum is a Zoo... Attracts hatchlings like mosquitos to a light....

I would estimate that at least nine-out-of-ten HL gamers have no idea what the engine limits are. And the majority of these probably didn't even know there <i>are</i> any limits. And I'll admit, I was somewhat part of the latter group at first.

After a few weeks of reading suggestions and then reading the same "the HL engine is 7 years old!!" and "that simply can't be done, ya n00b!!" responses a few dozen times, most people learn the limits well enough to prevent themselves from making dumb suggestions.

Also, I've noticed that many of the suggestions that are well outside the engine limits or are simply on the "<i>there's <b>no way</b> that's going in this game!!!</i>" list are made by users who created an account that day, and probably have a post count of less than 5. Sadly, the pinned topics (and the forum FAQ's) simply don't seem to attract their attention.

Is their anyway to FORCE people to read the FAQ before going into that forum? If there is, it should be done

Unfortunately, no. There are 'rules' that can be set for each individual forum, but they're not 'automatically enforced' rules. It's basically just a text message near the top of the screen.

As far as I'm aware, there's no real way to <i>force</i> someone to read the FAQ's beforehand. It can be strongly encouraged, but that's about as far as it goes. The software doesn't appear to have that functionality (yet).

<i><u>note</u>: I'm currently configuring a personal message board using invision (same as here), so I know a little about the administrator stuff</i>

My idea.. make it so when you click on the Suggestions and Ideas forum, It takes you to the faq thread, then from there you can get to the main forum.

Regular visitors can just bookmark it to bypass it though <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Off topic is so special it uses a colon instead of an equals sign in it's description.

    lmao!

i like offtopic too.... I would have to say the best forum is the models and skins forum. people who post there give positive feedback, and are very receptive to new modelers and their attempts at modeling.

Im afraid that there isnt much anyone can do about the suggestion and ideas forum... If the admins get rid of it the stupidity will spill out into general.

Forum Mod Forums = Last bastion of hope on the whole board.

Oh, then there's the Fan-Fiction forum which doesn't get much action so it's safe, too.

Yeah, the S&I forum tends to clamp down on people who don't read carefully nor bother to use the spotty search function to look for overly beaten topics. I lurk in a particular forum and get to know the little nuances and pet peeves of the people in that forum before I post, so I don't accidentally **** off people. However, some people get mad too easily.

I look in the Models and Skins forum and while it is true that the popular models and skins are from AvP (and perhaps StarCraft, once they are finished), I do respect what they do.

    OT is nice.
