well contrary to what everyone seems to see in their Nvidia CP, mine seems to be different. Even as searches on the web claimed its DRIVER dependant? Below are 2 images i've included so its better to see for all.
theres no tab to disable this vsync thingy <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->If you want to simply test real fast, rename your NS directory to 'NS.BAK', then install NS from the exe, and copy your config.cfg file over from the NS.BAK directory into your new clean NS directory (or just re-run your NS exe and it will make this backup copy automatically for you). Then connect to a few games and see how it goes for you. Rather than going back and hand-fixing all your models, I mean.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->Thanks for that tip. I founded NS installation exe from my hard-drive, so i didn't have to download it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> And it was a LOT easier than hand-fixing <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> It was really weird to play with default stuff. Last time i have seen default models in game was, when 1.03 were released, i think <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> And also the sounds were a bit strange too <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Anyway MonsieurEvil, the test has been completed <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> These screenies are a bit better than those custom ones.
<b><u>Pic 1</u></b> It seems that this default hive gives me 72-89 fps too, when i stand still and look towards it in empty room.
<b><u>Pic 2 and 3</u></b> Again pictures from lerks view. I just love to fly around with lerk. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> In those pictures while i fly over holoroom, fps keeps changing between 25-60.
<b><u>Pic 4</u></b> This was the lowest fps which i managed to take <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> , but i think it would be even lower with custom models in that point.
I admit it, fps is better with default stuff, but the difference isn't very big <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> So what happenes, if i press uninstall NS? Does it remove that "ns.bak" folder too or just the new ns folder? I want to change those custom stuffs back, because iam a big avp fan and it is awesome to see avp models and other avp stuff in NS.
If you uninstall it will only remove the NS directory, and leave any others.
Does seem to be a bit faster though. Have you tried knocking the res down to say 1024x768, just to see how big an improvement you get with the default models?
Also, have you used the voodoo file refresh rate modifer tool to get your refresh rates bumped up a bit higher and provide more FPS window?
No, i haven't use that voodoo refresh modifier thing. This was the first time when i even heard about something like that <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Ok, here is two screenies with default models in 1024 x 768 resolution. Well i didn't notice any difference in my fps between 1152 and 1024 resolutions. I believe that it might be better, but it is not much and i rather use 1152, so i can have full screen.
I think iam going to use these default stuffs for a while, because it is more fun to play with better fps. My fps doesn't drop that low in fire fights than it dropped with custom stuff <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (here is an example: pic 1) Hmm....i have try jp/hmg rush in hive room sometimes and see what happens to my fps. And when i get some money i buy a better graphic card.
Oh, and i managed to make a new lowest fps record <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> (check the pic 2) It seems that really low fps is still possible <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Yeesh. Oh well, if you're fairly happy with the default settings you should be in good shape. You could always beg the makers of your custom models to offer low-poly alternatives as well.
Well there are few low poly models version already. At least Morita rifle has two version, high poly and low poly. (and of course i use the high poly version, stupid me <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> )..mmmm....high poly.....it just sounded so cool back then <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
One more thing. Can i use both NS versions? I mean, if i rename that default NS folder to "ns.bak" and then change custom NS folder from "NS.bak" to "NS". After that i have custom models again....right? And if i want i can do that in reverse order and get default stuff back?
Oh, and with default models i have 2 x more servers than custom ones <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> , cuz the damm stupid file consistency check...
Yep, you can change back and forth all you want (or create shortcuts and custom games in your server browser, and not have to change the names).
And yes, you will have a lot more servers. The model consistency check is, for many players, a good idea. Otherwise, you may be playing with people that have made your model easy to see for them. Exploiters and cheaters, basically.
