Rain Of Skulks

<div class="IPBDescription">An effective hive defence.</div> ok, i was in a game, where there had to be atleast 15 people on each team. One gorge and two skulks went out to cap stuff, the rest of the team just camped on the walls and ceiling by the entrances.

A group of marines rushed the hive. They all ran in with pistols and lmgs drawn. No one moves. We all hid in the shadows and waited. One marine spoted a skulk, and they ALL opened fire on the poor man. He fell off the ceiling and landed on a marines head just before he died. so thats one out of 14 marines dead.

Next, they spoted one on the wall. Shot him to hell. Reload time. When we heard the first click, we charged them. We got three before the got the first shot off. I swear i head a brick hiting the floor. Two more marines died then they learned to aim. I saw, at one short point a lawn mower of three skulks rushing the marine line, shoulder to shoulder. They chewed down atleast 8 before they died. We moped up the rest of them and noticed they wernt respawning. We asked "WTH, Why ain't they commin' back in?<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->?" Apparently, out gorge and skulks that went out for res got thier cc and spawn portals.
Game over, man, game over!!!

It totaly looked like it was raining mutated dogs and parasites. I dont remember what map it was though. Oh well, it was a good strat and a good game.

While that does sounjd fun, I hope you realize that ANY ambush is an effective defense. When I'm playing with my soon-to-be clan, I like to move our ambush point out some. For instance, if the hive you were defending was power silo, instead of setting the ambush up there, you should have all moved to the bottom of the elevator at foreboding antechamber. This leaves less of a chance for a mine rush by the marines, and gives you a greater control of the map. Not only that, but it allows you to choose the where you fight, instead of letting the marines bring the fight to you.

The neat thing with this ambush was really the waiting-for-reload. It's a really neat trick - even if a marine hasn't emptied his clip, it's almost instinctive to hit reload as soon as a battle is over. It takes 3.5 seconds to reload the lmg (which, incidentially, is exactly how long time it takes to fire a clip as well) and during that time, the marines are just snacks-on-legs.

i found out on vlarge servers (more than 12 each team), marines have a very hard time setting up and defending an expansion early game. in small games, turret fac + 4 turrets + 2 marines > 4 skulks. however in large games, turret fact + 4 turrets + 5 marines < 8 skulks. no way to stop rampaging skulks in groups. although marines get tech so much faster bah. in large games that is

I wish you people would not spam my threads.

The reason we did it in the hive was so that they couldnt flank around us and sneak in the back way. It was on some custom map with a LOT of dark corners and walls, ext, so it was extreamly easy to hide and split up. They also could not shoot the hive from outside. they had to step in to get at it.

Still, when you hear the sound of 10 or so skulks hitting the ground at the same time, you tend to want to <censored> a brick. That alone caused enough confusion. when we all hit the ground, there was atleast a 2 second delay before the first marine fired his rifle.

10 skulks hitting the floor at the same time sound like 3 skulks doing so. anyway i get your point. its a vgd strategy.

Still, its that rapid **Gooog groog. grag, WTH sound they make*

it does make the marines jump. One of them actually jumped in game. Its like me. I hear that sound as a marine, and i always hit my jump button and crouch in mid air. Then a skulk bites me in the **** and i die. lol
