SHOCK!
Was playing last night on a server (think it was Fists of Ra) and it was about 4 or 5 to a side on eclipse. When I joined (as alien) we had one hive and a WOL and that was about it. Having a wander, the marines had a lot of res nodes and one guy tht was very good (as well as BH in the readyroom, but thats another issue).
About 2 mins after I joined, marines secured Maint. Phase, tf, the lot. good placement and one marine staying on watch meant that we couldn't get near. Then a few minutes later comp core was lost (and out gorge killed). We tried for a few minutes, but our lvl 1 carapce was getting chewed as by now, they had HMG.

Whilst the others on my team were being blended as soon as they made it to either (now locked hive) I realised that we were either in for a 2 hive lockdown and tech-up, just for humiliations sake, or if they didn't want to prolong the agony, their next stop was our hive.

I did a quick mental count and realised the only thing in their base was the comm. sticking my skulky snout in revealed one pg, one ip, and the comm chair, along with one pack of mines strewn around.

FIRST: I took down the pg in their base. So no immediate assistance. With the rest of my team still coming up against the HMG guys I don't think they even noticed the pg in the hives had gone dark.

SECOND: I started to chomp the IP. I also put out the shout to the rest of the team and was joined by a couple of comrades. I magine that the marine team was starting to worry at this point. We got a break at this point, the comm left his chair to take us out. 3 skulks vs 1 comm? Ouch.

THIRD: Chomping the CC By now, the marines had no way back to base, except shoe leather, no way to respawn if they die (encouraging them to stay put.) To their credit, on marine realised what was happening and ran back to base. He lived long enough to run past and sit in the CC. DAMN! if he lived long enough to drop another cc in either hive, we had no hope. Fortunately after about 1 second the chair vapourised, and the stunned would-be-saviour was surrounded by 3 skulks with victory in mind.

by then it was just a case of mopping up the stragglers.

To be fair, its not often that single hive carapacers can turn around a game when confronted with HMGs, but it CAN happen if you're sneaky enough

yeh ive had games were skulks take advantage on an empty marine base

    example:
today on the std server we were playing and i was guarding the hall between horshoe and main base(ns_eclipse of course) then i saw alot of teamates walk by i said "hey guys there still a marine left in base right" to which i got the response "yeh i think so" so i started to walk back cuz i was worried i see a marine die through death notification and think "oh ****" i run into base and there were 6 skulsk chomping an ip and an unbuilt armory. i killed all the skulks with 50 lmg and 10/10 pistol base was cleaned it was a nice attempt tho.

but then std-slash* killed us all anyway he wanted a restart haha (although i would have been able to build a new ip and not die)

    tactical thinking is great.

    but its not always useful

An experienced com would have relocated in that situation.

another way to take out a base that is ungarded is to singlehandedly gorge rush it
