Ns Update

<div class="IPBDescription">WHAT WILL HAPPEN!?!</div> I have everymodel changed in my NS. I have all sorts of awesome models. But when the NS update will be released, does the model animations change? Do I really have to start playing the upcoming new version with original NS models? That would be extremely bad...

No all the models aren't changing. I will have to change my huds around some though since they're adding some stuff.

i do believe some of the models will change, however there has been no word on whether any animations will change (which is really the only thing that will force re-releases of all custom models). even if there is, i am getting pretty good at recompiling models...

Good. I'm very glad on my NS now. It would suck if I had to start playing it with those original models.

don't ever say that again.... i've got 40 + megs of files that would need re-animation....or minor tweaks...NOT a funny concept from my P.O.V.

/me thinks of the new onos abilities such as devour and stomping the groud to make marines paralized and depending on what they gave the other classes i.e. lerk....

now what was that you were saying about animations? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Heh. I didn't mean to say that NS models were crap. The orginals are very good models but I just don't like the theme. I have Aliens models for everything and I think that they fit to the game and bring the right feeling.

The way I wrote the original installer code is that if it detects an existing NS directory, it makes a backup copy first (called NS.backup.%randomstring%) and installs the new NS copy cleanly in an empty NS directory. In the 1.1 patch installer, it will make a backup copy of the old NS directory, then install over the existing directory. That way, if you're a custom-model using type person, you can go into your backup dir and rescue your old models if you like.

But it is correct to say that in the NS directory you end up with after patching to 1.1, all your models will be overwritten, as the code will not be version/date checking, just chucking in files regardless, for obvious reasons.

As for the re-animation issues, modelers may run into some. There are some model changes being made to accomodate new code or fix old problems. I don't want to comment further on this as I don't have reliable details yet, but it will be happening.

totally agree with you Insane...Feel free to use custom models by all means, but dont bash the modeler's hard work.

He wasn't bashing the origional models, he was just saying he prefers custom ones because he doesn't particularly like the theme of the origionals. I have mostly custom models for marines and the hydralisk as my fade so i understand what he's saying.
