NS_Altair is in initial development and the layout is still being worked on but I wanted to get some input on some screenshots.

Some of the locations I have planned are:

Altair Command - Marine Start
Power Core
Turret
Communications
Recreation Room
Crew Quarters
Med Lab
Mess Hall
Environmental Controls
Cartography
Hydroponics Bay - Hive Location
Nano Factory - Hive Location
Unknown - Hive Location

I plan on using many of the lab textures but with a twist. The station is still currently "under construction" so there will be lots of exposed wires and superstructure (as seen in the Recreation Room screenshot). I would welcome any (positive) suggestions since yall will (hopefully) be the ones who will be playing it when it's released. I'll post a picture of the layout when I have that more finalized.<span style='font-family:Courier'> </span>

    I have never been a fan of rating maps by only screenshots, since they don't tell you much. However, the built parts of your map seem to share a similar theme to eclips (Now that isn't a bad thing, since eclips is so popular). Also, you seem to have done a good job of making it look like parts of the station are still being built.

    Thanks for your compliments. I like Eclipse. I also like Hera, Bast, Nothing and some custom maps. I'm trying to keep my map unique without copying any one else’s map. The lab textures just fit the vision that I had in my head. I may try to edit my own version of the lab textures with a different hue. I'm not sure yet. And please, make some suggestions if you think of something that would be cool. After all, what good is a map if no one likes it? I haven't done a whole lot with weldables or vents yet but I would like to have a some in there to make the replay value good.

    I like the idea of the "under construction" theme.

    I have a suggestion for the nano factory, the entire room is covered with with infestation except for the panels. I think you ought to try putting some light infestation over those as well.

    Okay, overall I like the theme you have running through your map <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    The ready-room could have a bit more detailed ceiling though, maybe make it arch over or something - also watch the texture alignments on some of the small surfaces.


    As a sidenote, try setting the texturemode as "gl_texturemode gl_linear_mipmap_linear", this will get rid of the sudden change between mipmap levels that you can see in your screenies, and make them look better <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Unfortuantly, I can't add more detail to the ready room. I have reached the suggested poly limit. Thanks for the texturemode suggestions though.

    It looks real good. My only critique is that it seems a bit too dark in some areas, especially the hallway in Antenna Control.

    I'm still working on the mess hall. I haven't been able to come up with a design that meets my high standards <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->. I want every part of the station to look like it has a purpose. Also, the map is a bit brighter than it appears in the screenshots. For some reason the screenshots come out darker.

    Thought it was time to show some of the layout. The level is designed in such a way that I can easily move around the different rooms if needed. This is maybe a 1/3 of the level but it's what I have so far. I would like some input. (Preferably positive input that would help me make a better map)

    Edit: Changed the color for Hive locations to make more sense.
    Edit: One of the labels was missing.

    Kewl. If you manage to keep the entity counts down I'm sure it will prove to be a popular map like Eclipse. Try to keep the hallways not too far from each other, so its less maze-like. Judging by the overview it's not too big a problem ATM though.

    Well after the first Half-Life 2 blitz (which I also participated in and even started one of the topics) I am ready to get back to ns_altair, but I need your help in two areas. First of all, I am having a bit of trouble designing a mess hall to my satisfaction and thought I would get some ideas from yall. Second, I still do not have a design for the third hive. I want something that fits with my outpost under construction theme. Any suggestions could prove helpful.

    hey, you made my day.... first map that i saw today with new screenshots that are actualy worth to look at. Sure, its not perfect, but you are on the right way
