Halo
<div class="IPBDescription">Anyone played it...?</div> I don't have an Xbox, so I haven't played Halo. However, the beta is coming up for Halo on the PC and I'm curious if it is any similar to NS in small ways. Sceencaps don't do it justice, what's it like to play?

the best levels to me are the beach like one where you start on a beach and the other one where you attack under the cover of darkness with a sniper rifle <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Yeah I didn't think it would be like NS, I just thought there might be some occasional similarities...
Anyway, I won't get a chance to play it until the beta comes out so I'll find out then. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

There was a few of us at a friend's place, and we picked up a few games, a pizza, and some quality Canadian beers. Halo was one of the games we rented - we all read about it, saw a few screenies, and heard how great of a game it was. We were hyped when we saw there was one copy left, so we grabbed it, thinking we'd be up playing this game until 3am or so.
Alas, that was not the case. We all tried it, and found the controls to be difficult, the graphics mediocre at best, and it just didn't have the fun factor that we were expecting. Maybe we just set our expectations too high.
'Course, it could have been the drinks too. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Yeah, watch it. I hear Halo calling for me when it hits PC. ~_^
Multiplayer was fun also, but 4 players just don't cut it. The PC Multi will hopefully be better. Overall, I rate it an 7/10, it was fun and had some neat parts, but the huge delay waiting for the Xbox outdated it some, mixed with some **** poor level design and tiny multiplayer games, it kinda ruined it for me. WIll I get the PC version? Only if it comes with something much better...
Can't say that it made me want to go buy an Ecksbocks tho.
Then Bungie got bought out by Microsoft, threw out the most advanced physics engine ever created because the XBox couldn't handle it, and started from scratch. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
At least they kept the general storyline intact.
I still remember playing with proximity mines, teamplay 2v2... man my friend got so mad at me <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
(you can probably tell I like mine spam)
Though remote mines were even more fun, b00m goes the whole level when someone shot a mine to get through that corridor... hehehe...
Golden gun mode was *** though, or so I thought, because I sucked at aiming in that game... maybe we should take this to Off-topic and get all nostalgia trippy.
EDIT: wh00ps this IS off-topic, thought I was in general discussion <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Thanks for the replies folks.
Yeah I guess Halo is supposed to be one of the more anticipated titled for the PC, which is probably why they are taking their time to make sure to do it right. From published news reports, this was supposed to go to beta last year, and here we are.
Well I'm hopeing that NS 1.1 will come out before the Halo beta does. (I'm dying to see the NS changes before I get too engrossed in Halo)

These games will probably be out before NS 1.1, although Im hoping that the NS devs will prove me wrong <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Not Porting Halo to the PC= SMARTEST MOVE EVER. I have 4 friends who have Xbox's solely b/c of Halo. 'nuff said.
BTW: for people who don't really know of Bungie, you've probably heard of their games, like Oni (which wasn't good, I haven't tried it though), Myth, Pathway into the Darkness (VERY innovative FPS), Marathon 1,2 and Infinity (creative, scary, and fun FPS), and a few other games that are so old that they were only released for the mac.
As for people complaining about the cone of fire in NS, or the spread in HL, you should try the assault rifle in Marathon (not the Falil), you'll hit anything BUT the middle. Oh, and side-stepping in Marathon was SLOWER than turning and moving, funny how realism lost to gameplay later on..
As for Bungie, my understanding is that they are still alive and well and working on Halo 2. (can you blame them? After Halo it was pretty much guaranteed that a sequel would come along)
Either way, Halo will definately make it to the PC, although when is still up in the air.

[rant]Now, all of you bash MicroSoft as being some big corparation that cares nothing for the products they release. Why then do they have a products update page? Why do they have a customer support number? Just because MicroSoft buys a company does not neccesarily mean that they are going to force that company to release a mediocre product. Impossible Creatures was first due in August 2002. It came out January 2003. Doesn't sound like product rushing. And another thing that pisses me off is all of your hypocrisy. You bemoan how much MicroSoft sucks, but what operating system do you use? You lament how much MicroSoft releases crappy products but then you go and use MS's Direct X version X.0. It seems all you guys really wanna do is justify your personal dislike of a product by blaming it on the company that provided a good power console for about the cost of a strong processor. You justify everything you dislike by blaming it on the corporations that provided a product for you when it doesn't meet YOUR EXACT STANDARDS. Ok, so Halo controls are not instantly intuitive. Neither is Metroid Prime's, but I don't see anyone bemoaning that. Ya know what? I've played Halo and after a couple hours (not 15 minutes) the controls become ingrained. Nothing about games are intuitive.[/rant]
Now Savant, I suggest that you try out the Halo beta. The games single player can get irritating, but joy driving the Warthog loaded with marines is something that no other game has been able to reproduce yet. The multiplayer is really fun if you have the sticky grenades (plasma) enabled. And the Vehicle physics are good. You drive on ice, your wheels spin and your control is sluggish. A very kick@$$ game.
It was going to have many more vehicals and wepons and some amazing phsics (if you hit a tree in the jeep you would fly through the wind sheild) but that all got canned <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Umm, nobody was bashing Microsoft. Personally, I have no problem with Microsoft, aside from the business aspect (<i>but then again, I dislike most major corporations anyways</i> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->). MS puts out damn good games, excellent hardware, and the OS's are considered the most popular because they've earned it. Sure, Windows can be a bit flaky at times, but considering how much it's trying to handle I'm very pleased that they work as well as they do.

It really shouldn't take a couple of hours to be comfortable with the controls. Sure, there's bound to be a few actions that use buttons differently than similar games, but once you first play the game you <i>should</i> be able to figure out how to do every major action even with just a few minutes of experimentation.
I'm sure that if we played for a few hours, we'd all be hopping, skipping, and backflipping across the screen. Unfortunately, we moved on to another game since the controls were frustrating, the graphics were a bit disappointing, and the game simply wasn't much fun (<i>although finally learning the controls would most likely have changed that last opinion</i>).
My only major gripe with the game was the flaky controls, which would be eliminated on a PC version. Despite my comments of disappointing graphics, they were still done well. We we simply expecting to be blown away based on screenshots and game reviews.
I'm actually looking forward to a PC version so I can finally give the game an honest chance, rather than me whining about tricky controls and moving on to a more simple game. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

so far as I can tell
Halo=god like (I know people who despise XBox and say Halo is an amazing game)
and now some points on the port:
1) the MP is going to be improved
2) Grafix go up
3) basicaly ALOT of it is being redone so that the good PCs (XBox is basicaly a crapy PC) can take advantage
so, yah I am looking foward to it
more fun side notes:
Halo is XBox ONLY, yah, every where you look that is what you will see <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> and yes it is being ported, yes they are stinkin bastds (XBox only implys it is the only concole to get it;D)
and I believe the schedual for the release of HaloPC is set up to coincide with Halo2 for XBox (so as not to take out any of the sales ;D)
Im quite fond of Halo and a few Xbox games, such as DOA3 which is my favorite fighting game to date (and not for the reason I'm sure the majority of you ... people are thinking ...).
I remember the first time I played Halo, it was with my brother on Co-op. We stayed up all night playing it. I realy enjoyed the game up untill the flood came into it. Just felt like Serious Sam after that .. and thats where the level reppetativness realy came into play (the library ... *shudder*). Despite those down-sides - Halo is wonderful and I dont think a single person should go without at least playing it once.

Halo is kewl but ugh DOA3 I hate that game! I duuno i just hate being the biggest guy and geting beaten up by a girl that wieghs no more then like 150
