Greatest Game I Played

Unbelievable
Hey guys, I think I've just played the single best game of my NS career, possibly my whole gaming life. It was just so good I had to share my experience. The map is ns_lost, and the server is Fist of Ra Natural Selection v1.04: Underworld 65.120.118.134:27016

The game starts out and someone hops in the CC. I generally like commanding, but in this case I didn't exactly have the map memorized, so I was a little hesitant. I do now though. He drops two IPs and an armory, then hops out. We all look at eachother for about 20 seconds, and I think to myself, sure, what the hell? I jump in the comm chair, and order the marines to cap the two nearest resource nodes. After that, I build an observatory, and order them to go down to the equilibrium hive. They get there, kill a few skulks, and have them build a phase gate in the lower corner. I soon realize that the placement wasn't so great, and marines kept getting stuck. So I recycle the old one and place a new one near the ResNode. I build a turret factory and some turrets and then I move on to secure Cargo Bay Delta.

Their main hive was Alpha Continuum, and by the time we secured equilibrium, they started building a hive in cargo bay. We move there, build a phase gate outside the hive since they did have numerous defense chambers and offense chambers. We built a TF, and a few turrets, then I upgraded the TF. We got some siege turrets down right as the hive finished, but unfortunatly the turrets were just out of range of the hive, but they cleared everything else. After the marines tried to unsuccesfully rush it, fades came and pushed us back and we lost the phase gate. I didn't give up though, as I built an arms lab now in equilibrium, trying to establish that as our new main base. I also built a CC in the hive, and a few IPs, as I recycle the old marine start.

If your not familiar with the map, equilibrium has one elevator entrance that can only be used by skulks and lerks, and the main entrance where anything can come in. By this time I build an prototype lab and begin researching HA. The fades start moving in on our base, and I drop a few HAs and HMGs and we kept the fades off of us by the hair of our chinny chin chin. We managed to push em back to coolant resource node, so I build the resource node their, desperatly needing resources. We move on to the center of the map, where we capped another resource node. From here I built a phase gate as the walking distance from our hive to this point was considerable. We move on to the resource node above Cargo Bay with HAs and cap it. Note that not many people had HAs, only 2 or 3, but they were doing a good job staying alive. Just as it looked like we had a glimmer of hope in moving on the hive, we get an umbra/fade/skulk rush from every enemy player. We lost every HA and weapon we had, and they soon closed in on our resource nodes. We have level 3 weapons and level 2 armor, so we're pretty well upgraded.

We empty the rest of the res on HMGs/GLs/HAs and begin to try to push again. After a stalemate for about 5 minutes outside our base, we finally break through to the first res node again and cap it. We then move to the second resource node in the middle of the map and cap that too, where I build another phase gate. We are pushing them back very slowly because they have unlimited resources and fades are popping up all over the place, as well as endless lines of OCs and DCs. We finally reach the third resource node above Cargo Bay and I build a phase Gate there, as well as an armory. I wait till everyone is equipped, then we push into their hive. Umbra clouds fill the air, grenades go off left and right, screams for welds pierce my ears, Acid rockets explode all over the place, but finnally after the longest 5 minutes of my life we push through and take down the hive. A feeling of relief comes over me, and the rest of the game is just mop up work.

Sorry to bore you with my account, but this was the greatest feeling victory I've ever had. Maybe I've been playing too much, who knows. I think the game lasted about 2 hours.

Just goes to show you dont always need to quit when fades pop up. Fades are very weak defencive wise unless they have carapace, 29 unupgraded lmg shots to down one. With cara its 79.
Very good job comming though. Id like to play a game with you once. Hehe this reminds me of the time i held processing by myself for 5 minits and ran out of ammo after downing like 10 + skulks.

I was on the alien side of a game like that on (KCAS). We rushed them out of there main base early on in the game but they managed to get to sub-space and get a IP up there. By the time we found em they had most of there team back in. We spent a good 40 minutes battling accrose the map for res and no-name. Some how though one of them sneaked into noname and got a TF/siege up in that depression by the hive (sneaky git of a marine counted to 6 after each kill and waited to build till sulks ran off). Anyways right as we busted through there def at sub they finished 4 sieges under noname which of course killed in seconds. They proceeded to actualy throw up the com chair in between no less then 6 OTs and then used the CC to cover an IP as the sieges took em out. (i would not have believed this if i had not of seen it) The sieges provided decisive fire power in the early stage of this insain base rush as we had to run past our own defences which ment we got Gibed by the sieges.
To cut a long story short the emerged an hour latter with lev3 HA/HMGs and proceeded to spend another hour sieging there way to our hives.
Even being on the lossing side i have got to say that was the best game I ever played. The tides of war had shifted both ways sevral times as two VARY good teams battled it out.

    omg a long read.

But still, a worthwhile read. I definitely wish I had been in that game. I never had experienced victory after getting locked back down to one base. People usually give up at that point.

I have to admit I also have the urge to give up after seeing our hive lockdown get decintigrated by lerk/fade combo.... Pull down console, type "quit" search for another server. But keyser59, you brought hope and light to me once again... I shall vow not to give up until the last moment from now on. You are my hero.

Most commanders do not know how to save the game when aliens get 2 hives. So thus I give you map props.

COmmanders arent the only ones who need to know what to do when there are 2 hives.

It was a good read. And an important reminders that a strong squad of HA's need a nade man to take out lame spam and umbraing lerks. I just wish I could get more reliable naders. Somehow I always end up giving a nade to a guy who believes he must use his nades to shoot skulks with and be the point man, instead of saving his ammo for more important targets. A full clip of nades hitting can remove a lame spam cluster with a bit of HMG support to finish the least hurt ones off.

Oh, and I do hope ns_lost will be part of the official maps for 1.1!

To tell you the truth, it was more of a victory for my marines, they did an excellent job staying staying alive and not giving up hope as we were being acid rocketed back to our base. It was a fairly large game, it started small but then grew as more people D/Led the map (possibly?). About 11 on each side during the major battles. Glad I could give hope to the least of you

Yes I remember you BIG_L. Sorry I forgot you, but if I wanted to get really specific, than my story would be 3 pages long. Anyone have a screenshot of the final score?

First I didn't like ns_lost, namely because it was so big and so complex I kept getting lost. Well, I really know it pretty well now, and I hope its included in v1.1

    Rule one:
When aliens have 2 hives and fades drop up to 3 grenade launchers and 2 or more welders.
if you have luck and the GLs are in wise hands (not getting lost, used for defense only) and the whole team DEFENDS FFS (nor rushing in their HA to death wasting all ther res) time is on your side and the game is won.

Great story its good to see ppl are fighting till the end and not just leaving. I do have to say some of the best games are the longest ones where u do actually end up losing. Me and a mate of mine LOTUK we love games that last for ages and we are losing but fighting hard and not just in ns either, in starcraft we used to rig games where we would play against stax of computer playas hide in a corner and see how long we could hold em off.... Soo much fun!

... IF you have relocated to a hive... otherwise, 2-3 minutes later the Onos/death clouds will finish off the marines.

I try to use the gren launcher responsibly, not wasting ammo and only hitting important targets. but i can also use the GL offensively as well. i am very effective at pushing back alien advances. most ppl call it spam but its not really since u have to know when and where to empty yer clip.

One time i was playing on hera, and all was lost. i was the last marine with a JP and GL, i held off 3 ono's (killing 2) and numerous fades for about 10 minutes until they blew up the armory and the dumb commander wouldnt give me any ammo.

I used to have a screenshot where i picked off a lerk three times in the air and killed it. One guy said over the mic "that was beautiful!" LOL
I just wish commanders would give the gren luancher to me instead of the dumb n00b that keeps begging for it the whole game :/

the scene is eclipse, marine start, our comm jumps in and builds one ip and then drops a tfac by the res...WTH... we go with it, he builds the larges turret farm i have yet to see and sieges as well, he then starts mumbling a bout where are the rocket launchers and leaves....feck.... we mine the doors and the corridors quite lamely and head to shorseshoe, where our NEW comm decided a comm chair is needed, along with an ip....again, WTH.... so we build it, and then the corresponding tfarm.... now its off to station acc alpha, the other close res node, where he drops ANOTHER cc,ip and tfarm... we ejected him now.... adn the new comjumps in. HE knows his stuff and starts capping what res the aliens dont have, (they have fades, fully upgraded with cara and adren) and decides, what the heck upgrade the outpost tfacs, and put a siege next to them.... oh well, then we get an onos rush, downed quite quickly buy our lvl 2 weapons and extensive mines/turret farm. We get ha and hmg lvl 3 armor and weaps, and rush them..... we won

it was the coolest and at the same time lamest game ive ever participated in.

the far off ip's turned out to be a boone, cause it meant that when they lerkgassed the main not everyone died and someone could allways mop up the lerk.

Yeah, relating to the last post, you seldomly ever see marines stick in their own base and only move to one hive, then sit on their resources to tech up to HA. This kind of strategy involves long played out games, and most comms like the quick and easy wins where they lock down two hives or the popular JP rush.

In my opinion JPs are overly used in the early stages of the game, and underly used in the later stages (If the game last that long). The only time commanders generally give out jetpacks when the aliens have to hives is when the JPers are unusually skilled and could sneak attack a hive, or his troops are begging and they know your gonna lose anyways. Hopefully in 1.1 as has been mentioned, it will take longer and be more expensive to upgrade jetpacks, but it will be useful to counter onos, thus commanders might provide some marines with HA and others with JPs in the late game.

Yeah I have had similiar experiences with comms putting down siege turrets in our starting base as they think they will ward of onos. I've never actually won a game like that, kudos to you =)

The best NS games are Fades vs. HAs
That's how it was meant to be played I think. 2 Hive lockdowns are lame, JP rushes are frustrating, but the HA thing is wonderful. I've had a few games like that, commed an awesome one almost exactlly like yours and pulled it out of the bag.
Oh and the beginning is good too, when skulk have carapace that is, otherwise they're just meat.

The greatest game I ever played. Was some time I go so I cant come with any details. Anyway, it was ns_hera, server forgotten. It lasted about 3 hours and really lethal combat happend nearly the whole time (Commonly Fades vs HA on some area, usually holoroom that shifted hands almost every 5 minutes). The marines actually repelled an onos rush! Then they send a HA squad, that succeds in killing a hive. But after that they are dispatched and the hive rebuild, next attack vanquished the marines however.
