Gloom - Quake 2 Mod
<div class="IPBDescription">Anyone remember this mod?</div> back in the day when Quake 2 was the sh*t, there was a mod called Gloom
it has humans and there were aliens.
the aliens spawned in eggs. and the humans were teleported on pads.
humans had guns and other technology. while aliens jumped on each other, clawed each other, etc.
sound familiar?
now im not trying to say natural selection is in any way copying gloom but i just wanted to know if anyone else
is reminded of gloom when they read about natural selection.
if youve never heard of gloom or never played quake 2, check out this site about gloom and lemme know what you think:

I'm supprised no one has ever brought this up before ...
well, the gloom sounds and looks interesting but at the same time, ity'll give me the creeps. thanks though, for announcing it.
Oh. JediYoshi, what I was trying to say was that my intention isn't to say NS is copying Gloom or Gloom is copying NS.
That's all.

no problem. i just felt really nostalgic when i was reading about natural selection and i was wondering if anyone who played gloom has caught onto it yet. it would be interesting if some old gloomers got into this game.
i havent tried NS yet, but Ive been reading bout it.
but it seems like NS and Gloom suffered from the same issues as well (e.x brightness/gamma).
Haha, believe me, it's been done.
And believe me, my <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=7394&hl=gloom' target='_blank'>first post</a> is guilty too.
And what's <a href='http://www.stripcreator.com/view.php?author=MonsE&ID=91606' target='_blank'>this</a>??
A long time ago before NS became playable to the public every one was relating NS to AVP and Gloom etc say it was a rip off blah blah till it drove every one crazy <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
All was said generally that NS was inspired from lots of games not just those two mentioned and humans Vs Aliens is a old idea.
Do some searchers you should find at lest some thing about NS & Gloom (me to lazy to do it for ya <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> )
On a side not me being originally a fanatic gloom player waits anxiously for Q3Goom bringing the end of the R1CH reign on gloom on Q2 <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

Hahahahaha. You beat me to it, Anavrin.
Gloom was the best. We should start a Gloom clan for NS.
My favourite thing to do was to grapple onto the floor as a hatchling
in front of a mech and then keep jumping over and over again...
good times.
contact me sometime anavrin and anyone else who played Gloom, so we can play NS together.
i havent tried it yet i admit but i will play it soon. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

GO GLOOM
But one thing I'd like to mention is that NS plays very different from gloom, for 3 big reasons.
1) Gloom was all about darkness. If you didn't have your flashlight on, you couldn't hit that 4 pixel x 4 pixel spiderling. In NS, you can play fine without your flashlight against cat-sized skulks. Personally, I'd love to see darker maps (like the cargo bay foyer corners in ns_nothing).
2) Gloom games always lasted a long time. Lvl 1 creatures couldn't kill spawn structures, so initial rushes did very little. However, upon dying with a high frag count, the round changes dramatically. In NS, rushing upon spawn is a very common tactic, especially by the aliens.
3) Gloom was more of a war. NS is more of a infantry battle. The fact that you basically had unlimited resources in Gloom and the presence of ultra high armour lvl 5 units who could rambo like you wouldn't believe makes them unstoppable, except by their counterpart lvl 5 unit. In NS, not even a heavy armour with a heavy machine gun can solo successfully. The aliens have their Onos, which are basically Stalkers, the only viable solo class. And as the FAQ says, there will never be mechs in NS, so it'll never feel like a heavily mechanized game. In other words, NS plays like a Gloom without the mech infantry.
Admittedly, the jetpacks, flying units, and strategic elements of the game are very similar and give an easy transition for former Gloom players.

Like it is now.

Sarcasm master! ;)
I sure hope multiplayer in DOOM III works out so Team Reaction proceeds w/ their plans for Gloom 2. :(

I thought Gloom 2 was going to be for Q3A?
Gloom 2 on Doom 3? I'd give up NS for that! It'd be the perfect combination.
Although I'm still hoping that they'll do a System Shock 3 on Doom 3's engine (which I know won't happen any time soon.)
