Resource node placement

Somethign feels wrong
I've mentioned this in the irc chatroom, but thought I'd field it here, too.

I see this a lot in the overheads that are being posted, and for some reason it just feels wrong to see it: resource nodes planted in the hive rooms.

Seems to me this would encourage consolidation of all the aliens' eggs in one basket, as it were - you only have two entrances to worry about, and you don't have to concern yourself with defending both your node and your hive seperately... assumedly, they'd start constructing upgrade buildings there, too.

Thoughts? Maybe it's just my own design feelings/faults creeping in here - not to mention that I'm not a playtester... just seems like removing the node to, at the least, an adjacent room would be better...

Alien camping is prevented by the fact that most Hives have 2 ways in and that the aliens have to defend three of them to keep up with heavily upgraded marines. DOtn worry, there wotn be any hive camping. But alien bases are supposed to cluster together, so Upgrade towers tend to be built out of site but in the general Hive area.

As it stands right now, and I don't know what changes may eventually nullify this so don't think of this as absolute...

The Marines have a very real incentive to take out hives. It is like clockwork. Once a couple level 1s Divine Wind and take out 2-3 Marines, the Marines know there are 3 hives up and make every effort to take 1 or 2 out.

Most of the time when the Marines hit a hive they level the place. Clearing the place of upgrade towers, resource collectors, evolving aliens...

I look at it as a double-edged sword. Yes, consolidated alien buildup is more easily protected. It is also more easily eliminated. Technically, it is in the best interests for the aliens to be spread out.

So I think Greedo and Ken20Banks have the right idea by making resource nodes as abundant as possible.

Well, as abundant as possible without being overly congested.
