Ns Server Behind A Router

Hello all. Long time lurker (no pun intended <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->), first time poster.

I'm trying to set up a small dedicated server on a spare computer here, but I'm having a problem.

I run HLDS on the spare computer, and I can connect through the computer's local address (192.168.0.7), but as soon as I try and connect through my WAN IP address, it won't connect.

I'm using a Netgear RT314 router, and I've check the NAT part of the setup. Port 27016 (the port set in the server's autoexec.cfg) is supposed to point to 192.168.0.7 (the server computer) but for some reason it doesn't seem to want to work.

I've read and tried the online guides, and they aren't much help. The first thing I tired is putting the server computer's IP address outside of the router's DHCP range, but that just screwed with the internet connection on the server computer. I was still able to connect through the LAN, but not by using my WAN IP.

Any suggestions?

You cannot connect to the server form your WAN IP inside your LAN. Remember, your router is pointing port 27016 to the server, so how can it allocate it to you too? <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

I run a server behind my router. I connect using the LAN address and outsiders use my WAN address. Works just fine.

This post may help you if you are looking for settings for routers. There are a couple others I believe. Try searching the forum. Good Luck!
