Some new screens
I wasnt at all happy with the old marine spawn, so I am remaking it. These are some screens from the first compile so keep in mind that they are very early and I will be tweaking things. Also dont tell me this area is small cause this is just part of the marine spawn. I will put more screens up when I do the other parts of this area and tweak things more.

This is really cool looking Ekaj. My only concern is that it's really dark for a marine spawn, which you'll probably hear a lot of

Whoa.. That lighting is amazing. Much better, in my opinion, than the old one. My only gripe is that in the 2nd picture, there are parts that are pure black. It doesn't look right, I think it should be somewhat lit.
Otherwise, great work!

Oh my dear god ekaj, that is AWESOME, seroisly, that is going to be incredible to play in. The only critisism i can give is that it seems a BIT too dark for the marine spawn

Okay, I have a wallpaper version here (but plz the hera ms owns me). And yes I did a little editing, its not that sharp ingame, but hey this is just a wallpaper.

Cheers geezer.

Just noticed those panels have 3 spotlights shining on the texture, but only 2 lights mounted overhead, looks odd.

Sweet mother of neon lighting. Wow.

Looks really good, Ekaj. Very impressive. I, for one, can't say I prefer it over the previous MS though. *Shrugs* I'd much rather have the old one back. In my opinion, this would make for an awesome area nearer the hives.

Looks great, as usual Ekaj. It does look a little clean to me, but there's only one way to see how that works: see it in-game. Please try to use NS textures when you can.

Let me know when you get a playable .bsp, I can't wait!

Absolutely stunning. Ditto on the 3 spots/2 lights issue raised at the top of this page; perhaps you can scale down the lighting texture and tile it to have 3 of them?
• EkajEkaj Creator of ns_mineshaft, co_core Join Date: 2002-01-26 Member: 95Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor, NS2 Map Tester
Okay Ive played around with the lighting a bit and Id like to know what you think of it. Btw my HL gamma slider is in the middle.

I think that if you'd thrown in some white lighting instead of the orange, it would have ended up looking a lot better.

Anyways, the architecture and design in here is suberp.
• realityisdeadrealityisdead Employed by Raven Software after making ns_nothing Join Date: 2002-01-26 Member: 94Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Personally, I think the orange is perfect... but the actual lighting fixtures are way off... far too big. Again, amazing architecture though.

Concerning messing with your gamma settings... Well, I'd advise typing in "gamma 2.5" and sticking with that. Otherwise, you'll be optomising your level to look good on your own system.. but it might not look the same at all on another. Trust me, I know all about that... *shudders*

2.5 is the default setting that NS will apparently ship with. I'd optomise it to look good at that setting. I had optomised my own lighting to look good at a 1.5 setting, and now I'm having to settle with something far less attractive at 2.5. Make sure you don't have to deal with the same thing. Even if it means redoing some of the lighting... your map is still early, right? It's probably worth it.

If you're making lighting brighter overall, or changing the contrast, then there are some really useful command-line parameters for HLRAD.

-scale # - linearly scales the lighting, 1.0 being unchanged. If your map's too dark, a -scale 1.5 or similar usually helps.

-gamma # - gamma correction on the lightmap. A little fiddly to use, since the standard gamma is 0.5, and it requires the inverse of a 'usual' gamma.

If you want to apply a gamma of 1.4 to the lightmap, it's 0.5 * 1/1.4 = 0.357, and so on.

For the glorious other-worldliness of ns_shaft, -scale 1.4 -gamma 0.53 might be about right. Or something like that, anyway.

Ekaj, that blend of blue and orange lighting is ingenious. I love what you've got here. Keep 'em coming.

I think I'd agree about the white lighting, on the upper level. But the orange floor accents are perfect. It looks fabulous.

Looks really awesome. That's one of the best Sci-Fi styles I've seen, even competing with movies. I'd love to see how you are going to incorporate the alien areas into it as well.

its really beautifull, but i really think you should stick to the all-blue theme. Its just more beautifull, right now the atmosphere is a bit ruined imo...
please hurry up i want to play this map..

Is that orange lighting point-based? It looks really unnatural to me. I liked the all-blue much better.
