Medpacks and ammo packs <b>will</b> disappear after.....30 seconds <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> (not sure for the time, but they disappear pretty quick).
I've seen weapons stay on the ground indefinately. I'm inclined to agree with Paq.
If someone dies with the weapon, they can't spawn fast enough to get back to it, and most people never know where it is when you die (if you tell them, then you never know if it disappeared or if someone grabbed it)
But i HAVE seen Jetpacks disappear when they were dropped around an armory.
It took a bit of time, but they seemed to disappear (along with some guns)
So i told the commander to stop spamming equipment and wait for someone to ask for it..
Sigh. waste of res when it disappears, yes.

Just imagine that if those weapons you drop wouldn't ever disappear, then your commander could equip whole team with HMG's and if they die then they can go to pick them up after next respawn from other side of the map.
It would be cool, if those weapons could have just a little health and only way to make them to disappear will be by destroying them (few bites or acid rockets, etc...).
marine 1 gets an hmg, marine 2 gets an hmg
marine 1 dies...
marine 2, in order to save that hmg, drops his gun and picks up the other. waits about 10 seconds, and does it again. you cna keep a gun alive indefiniteily this way
ONOS comes to marine2 and says hey gimme gun
marine2 says no so ONOS kills him
then both guns are gone to the void of lost res cuz ONOS cant figure out how to pick it up
