Not to worry Flayra, you've always got my comics to read instead <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Yuck. It wasn't supposed to be funny, now was it? I'm still in puberty, and I most certainly don't draw that kind of violent cartoons, even though I like drawing.
Yeah it worrys me that this guy has such a graphic understanding of brutality but at least he had a harmless outlet for it. They weren't particularly well thought out comics or very well made but the thing that got me was the way he draws the injurys inflicted on melvin. They are so detailed in comparison to the rest of the comic drawings. Mayby this was a representation of the frustration he was going through as a teenager. Who knows tho and I certainly don't. There are lot of people who have imaginations like that and the police usually like to call them serial killers. Very disturbing!
I think there kind of funny in a sadist kind of way, like when you see someone fall off a water tower on real TV and laff your **** off, then feel bad after.
John Romero and Tom Hall are actually teaching a course in engine design at my school. I'm not taking since (since I'm not a CS major), but from what I've heard, it's extremely interesting. After that Ion Storm Dallas fiasco, I'm glad it's not a course on how to run a game company. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Warren Spector is still the man though.
I attended one of his lectures, and he actually apologized for making Daikatana! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Surely this is in the wrong forum BAD FLAYRA!! : )
They're only funny if you don't understand where they're coming from, although the ridiculous nature of them is kinda amusing in itself (depends on what tastes in humour you have, obviously - personally I'm not too fond of toilet humour, but hell he was a kid).
As a friend once told me, you laugh when its the truth, but you won't when you understand why it's the truth. Kinda sketchy philosophy but appropiate for many, many situations.
I wouldn't say it was disturbing - I don't find many things disturbing (I think desensitisation plays a role here), probably because I can come up with some disturbing stuff myself. But it's okay. I probe and entertain the darker areas of my psyche because if I didn't then I would be denying myself a part of me (how can you block a part of yourself out and yet be fully one with yourself?), and it's reassuring to know (perhaps a confirmation) that John Romeo has done the same thing. Everyone has a dark side. However, please don't think that through this reasoning I am willing to commit crimes of a disturbing nature, because, as any intelligent person knows, what you think and what you choose to do are VERY different things.
Has anyone ever read the Johnny The Homocidal Maniac comic? Quite an entertaining read, I must say, and has some extremely good ideas in it... (again, I get the feeling that some people might be getting the wrong end of the stick of what I'm saying here, heh)
Kudos to John for being brave enough to put those comics up on his site. I imagine he's shocked many people with them, which I find hilarious (or maybe disappointing, but hell I'm not surprised).
i actually made some of these things a couple of years ago, just to learn how to animate...Using nothing but MS Paint, and alot of time on my hands, i made some pretty funny animations....Of course, it all revolved around some guy called Fred who would end up being killed every time...but still..funny. Of course that was a long time ago and i dont do that anymore.....*shift eyes*
I might still have them somewhere.....
EDIT: I found them <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
