Fps, Guns, And Such

It might be posted, but !search
As I said in the topic/description, search never works, so, I'm posting this anyway.

It's a little late, but since I'm here, I'll post it anyway:

High FPS by turning of vsync and some other things, allow skulks to get one bite kills, by biting 3 times in the space it takes to bite once, and allows marines to empty a clip in less than half the time it takes them to normally, meaning they can kill much faster than anyone else, and of course their reload time is reduced.

This is COMPLETELY unfair to either users machines who can't support vsync being off, or any user using the regular configurations for the game, and not tweaking their NS fps up the ***. And I hope something is done so users aren't relying on super high framerates to kill skulks, it kinda makes me want to kick someone in the head when people do stuff like that, and I've taken to telling people to turn vsync back on or leave, most people don't have a problem with it, but I'd rather not have to be this hostile to my players.

I always wondered why I could sometime kill them in one bite and other times it would take me more. Same with the gun thing. Also if you notice.. ppl with higher FPS build faster too. I think Flayra is addressing all these things in 1.1

your argument is invalid because i play @ 100fps w/ 100Hz refresh rate...vsync won't stop my ultra building.

Maybe limiting ppls FPS to 75 or somehting would be good. I dunno. Flayra is da man, he'll figure out a better way.

cl_fps, maybe a server that enforces cl_fps set to 75 and not any higher

i thought it was fpsmax or maxfps...because thats what i used.

Call me a skeptic, but I'd like some evidence of this, or at least a decent smattering of posts with "I can confirm this; tested it myself."

It is ture. But I dont want anyone affecting or holding my fps down, thats messing with my computer. You mess with my computer, you die. Just set a max build time or something?

I don't think this is true, it seems a little far fetched. I haven't seen a post in the bug forum regarding high FPS leading to fast building, nor have I heard Flayra say anything of the sort.

Having a fast computer gives you an edge, certainly, but not one as drastic as the one you describe. I do not think that building a structure or emptying a clip are client side functions at all. The server is the one that decides whether something is built, attacking or is empty and needs to be reloaded.

Don't belive me? Take reloading your gun at the armory for example. It used to be that your gun was filled first, then your reserve ammo. Now it's the other way around. This was a server side change, not a client side one. There have been zero changes to the client since release.

The client has little to do with the way things work, it's an interface for you to see what the server is feeding you. When you select a weapon, reload your clip, move a direction, grab a weapon, fire a gun, bite a marine you are sending commands to the server to interpret. The server then sends you the result after calculation.

I've seen things in both CS and NS to allow people to shoot faster then they should be able to, but this is hardly NS' fault, rather it's people exploiting the system for maximum gain.

I suspect this has more to do with half-life than natural-selection. Would droping the server tick rate (or whatever it's called) cap any posible advantage?

Vadakill I'm almost positive this does happen. I will do some testing this weekend with my clan on our scrim server. I know for sure I build faster when I have higher fps. Also if you have a rate of 75fps (or 80fps can't remember off the top of my head) or better .. jetpack will never run out on you. Let me check the the bite rate and bullet rate.

Well, Once again. I have no proof because I never looked at the issue. But I run at a constant 100+fps. With a refresh rate of 140hz on my monitor. And I do notice I basically never run out of jp power.

I know I build faster than a lot of people, and if I jetpack correctly, I can float forever.

    It's the triple-skulk-bite and super-fire / super-reload I doubt.

i've been killed and i've killed in one bite before.....i think its a HL problem as well.

Yeah, i'm the building in my clan.

I had a round where all skulks were killing marines in one bite. No idea what caused it. One-time deal.

Perhaps a serverside command or something?

Nah, it was the server I regularly play on. Nobody on had any clue how it happened. The server I frequent is bare bones; not even an /unstuck plugin

    Probably cosmic rays.

Testing the building is easy. Just set up a server and drop two IP's.

Buil done like normal, then set fps_max to 10 and build the other. It is a huge difference (unless your normal fps is 10 of course).

How do I set my max fps higher? I think my graphics card will support higher than 60 fps, but I keep getting capped at 60. I mean, at 60, I still slowly run out of jetpack fuel!
