You'll not get me to shut up!
Since I do not posses the DVDs (that's not to say I don't want them, but the Us releases are to expensive, and when I bought the Import it had a humungoid scratch in it so I couldn't watch anything of it, and I havn't gotten around to getting it again) I would like to know how the dubs are, and I would like to congrajulate you on purchasing the greatest anime series of all time (in my humble opinion)
O yeah, Amarao=teh roxor
Watch english dub, cut ears off.
hmmmm
*slice*
Gainax and dubs just don't mix (but if you ask me, dubs are always bad)
They just don't capture the quality/feel of the original voice actors.
[soul explodes]
Gun Smith Cats (very very good, they sound like westerners, but then agian, the chars actualy are western)
They seem to have gotten ACTUAL voice actors.
and Mononoke:
Clair daines sucks, yes I know. But other then that they are all VERY well done
but yah, those would be the only 2 good dubs that I know ;D

Billy Bob shouldn't have been anywhere near that studio.
The only two half-decent dubs I can think of are Akira, and Cowboy Bebop (even though they messed up LeFou's voice somethin awful)
Mononoke was tolerable, mainly because I enjoy Billy Bob Thorton
And with that, I sleep, hopefully to dream of Mamimi.
And I still stick by GSC and mononoke
The dub that bugs the hell outta me most is Appleseed dub, the characters say some of the stupidest phrazes... Must've been lost in the translation. The original Akira dub was pretty lame too, every character ended a sentence with "Huh".
But even if the dubs are pretty bad sometimes, I like listening to english than japanese.
/me gets owned by Canti (Kanchi, TV kun)/
The topic in 2 words
/me puts on fake huge eyebrows, takes off on yellow Vespa/
mehehehe, bebop dub BAD! (jet and spike both sound god awuful)
Appleseed was just bad in the first place, don't worry ;D
Akira, the fat one sounds like fsckn luie albert, AND THATS NOT A GOOD THING!!!!
And again, trigun, it makes my ears bleed.
again, I personaly say, don't watch dubs, you loose alot, for some reason the companies that do em just CANT FIND VOICE ACTORS.
There are tones of good voice actors in the us (go watch fsckn cartoons you will see what I meen) yes they still pick up idiots BAH
But I'm strange and usually it is too taxing for me to use subtitles. And it may also be that I heard the dubs before the subs or something.
But I don't care what you people think of me because of it! It just means I can concentrate more on whats being said than having to read whats being said. That and I'm partially short sighted so reading from a screen can get a little difficult....
And btw, i've seen it all subbed, and though i've also seen it dubbed through eps 1-4 (currently the only ones out in the US right now), FLCL is definitely one of the better dubs i've seen, along the lines of bebop, which was dubbed incredibly well.
Go see it, now.
Most of the problems with watching flcl is that alot of the jokes and coments are VERY VERY centered around Japanese culture (generaly popculture).
The scenes where they switch to manga style are jokes on something that I DON'T KNOW
same thing with alot of the seemingly random things they are doing (aparently each ep is referencing something specific).
Yes I did get college credit for watching anime (gotta love it ;D 1 cred but still). The guys teaching the exco (name of the type of class) told us abit about it, though he didn't know too much either.
So yah it is screwed up, but there is alot of it that most of us won't get.
And speaking of geting, thats why I like subs (well good sub). They will often explain things that you are not getting b/c it has been translated into english.
One VERY good example is that every time one of the chars (can't remember who) in Eva says "goodBye" they are actualy generaly saying Syanara, wich translates to a much more final type of goodbye. (I know this b/c I got a few friends that speak some japanese)
