Lmg/la Vs Fade

how to stay alive
they have 2 hives, you have a little LMG with lvl 1 ammo upgrade. you think ur in trouble. as your running around the map you come across a fade.....oh deer.
if the fade is far away then you can just unload bullets into him from afar but when the fade gets his claws out he is going to hurt you ...alot.

it takes 2-3 hits to kill you from a fade attack , but there is ways to stop the fade hitting you when they attack, this also works with onos and skulk attacks.

when a fade is running towards you , 1. dont run away, he is faster than you and ur going to die. 2. dont duck or stand still. in this situation if you want to have any hope of surviving you must run at the fade and jump towards him slightly to the left ot right. once you land gain some speed and run towards him again, dont know how must be a hit box bug but i get hit every 5-6 times they run at me.
if you mannage to pull this of then the fade cant hit you with claws so might use there acid rocket, keep running at him because he will hurt him self.

this makes soloing fades about 300% easier and also will use alot of Rps on the enemys side and its almost free for mariens.

hope this helps.

With all due respect, against a semi-decent fade with just one weapon upgrade and a LMG, your dead. You do not stand an earthly.

youll really want lvl 2/3 weapons and lvl 1/2 armour to kill a fade, if you outnumber fades they dont stand a chance unless theyre smart enough which doesnt happen on pubs so youll be ok

Yes bunnyhopping will let you live a bit longer, but you can't kill a full health fade alone with lvl 1 weapons. (unless if that fade is a completely n00b). If you manage to empty your lmg and pistol to fade, it will take pretty much damage and probably must go to get some healing.

But if you have hmg that jumping will help a LOT. Yesterday i killed two fades with lvl 1 hmg. Other fade stayed few meters away and spammed acid rockets while the other one tryed to kill me with his claws. Every time when he get close i ran towards him and jumped slightly past him. He died when i had shooted almost half clip and then i emptied the other half on that second fade.

I usually just keep charging the fade's no-matter what. There could be 4 Skulk's behind me and I'll just sit there and shoot the Fade.

Don't let them escape, usually a fade will just launch a few acid rockets and run for the nearest defense chamber.

When I'm Fade, I don't bother running at marines with unupgraded stuff, it's such a waste of time.

Where is the hitbox exactly of the Fade?

Dunno exactly. If you shoot that fade in the head your bullets will go trought. I always aim at the mid section of the fade.
Iam not sure about the legs...

The fade hitbox is almost perfect ... the tip of one hand and the upper half of the head isn't covered. Compared to the other aliens with there mostly completly fubar'ed hitboxes, the Fade has nothing to complain about.

Bw, did you know an Onos hitbox is so high above the floor he can sometimes walk across mines without triggering them?

I always figured center mass was the best way to go for pretty much everything when you fire a weapon. However, I found the problem being that most people are afraid of fades and don't try and persue them actively. Even with low lvl upgrades it behooves you to jump to avoid the fade missles and lay constant firing on the fade. When the fade starts running, that means its hurt, get someone to help and keep firing, even if yuo have to resort to your pistol/knife. Also, pretty much anytime when its 2 on 1 fade the odds of killing the fade are greatly increased without loss of life. The most important thing when going for the fade and only having the lmg is to get someone from team to help.

Yup, team work is the "key" for marines. You can kill almost anything (except onos ) with good teamwork.

And nothing isn't more satisfaing than killing a fade.....when he makes that *roaarrrr* sound and falls on the floor in front of your feets....it feels great, especially if you kill it with pistol or knife

Yeah you need upgrades to stand a chance against fades. If you unload a clip of lvl 3 dmg into the fade he will be nearly dead(or already dead). It is so rewarding to kill a fade because they just lost 58 resources (54 to evolve + 4 for upgrading). It helps if you have a team mate.

Okay I know it sounds daft but I took down a fade with a knife and chased another away from the base.
Sure the Fade I killed was acided to bits by its fellow before I knifed it (probably hurt already before that as well). I was only going for it with my knife because of Umber and got a lucky strike in.. Now I know it was not skill but luck that got the kill but my point is the other Fade turned tail and ran and ran and ran with me chasing him knife out laughing like mad. I wouldn't have minded but I was only chasing him so I could die and respawn as I only had 8 health left and LMG. Even the other marines defending base laughed over comm as I chased it down corridor, adding thier taunts over text chat as well. Kinda funny considering my TAG and the "go get 'im Tiger" comming over com.

One of the best games I have played despite losing badly, good spirits in all players making a fun and friendly game (always a bonus if you get a lucky kill as well )

I killed over 30 marines in a row once with lvl 3 regen and adrenaline... You just need a different playing style.

I was once the only marine left when an onos came running out of a nearby hive, I fought him 1 on 1 and he ran after I emptied both omg and pistol clips along with a bunch of knifing, he ran too quickly for me to catch up. Soon after another onos killed me.

The thing is, when the aliens have fades, no matter what the upgrades, the game is over for the marines.

Off course, if some of the marines have uber low ping, there is a glimmer of hope.
  • severijnseverijn Join Date: 2002-12-18 Member: 11049Members
When a marine has to fight one on one against a fade, it will go as this:
    1)charge!
    2)*splash**splash*
    3) Run forest, run!!!
    4)third and final *splash*

There is no escape from a decent-fade into the living world.

And BTW, fighting an onos with a knife is making a deathwish.

In fact, there is pretty nothing marines can do to counter the onos, not even team work will help.

If all the sudden stock marines with lvl 2 wep/armor would started to own fades things would be terribly wrong..

the thing with using other chambers is that they are situation specific and often require things to not go wrong. With cara you can just crush anything and everything

I, too realized as a fade that marines on pogo sticks are hard to hit. Swipe has very short range and a very small scan area. So a marine can run around a corner and wait in ambush. The fade usually expects the marine to pull the distance furthur and give chase. Then the marine can run past the surprised fade and get some free hits. Another marine would certainly come in handy.

BTW, don't count on redemption if the marines have HMG.
  • DoppleDopple Join Date: 2002-12-31 Member: 11698Members
As a Fade, it's funny seeing people try these tactics.

Oh no! A marine is sideways jumping toward me! Guess I'll have to swipe him with these long sharp claws I have! Oh wait, I have l3 carapace and l3 adrenaline, he didn't do jack squat to me in damage

Oh no! 2 marines are ganging up on me with LMGs from a distance! I'll just lob acid rockets then blink + swipe.

Like others have said, the fact is, if you have unupgraded weapons vs. a fade, you've lost already.

When you are a fade, use regeneration and adrenaline. A fade with this upgrades is the most difficult to kill and is the most powerful.

That is NOT true. Yes if marines have just spended all the moneys for sentrys or they have only 1 res node, then the game i usually over. But if marines have 3-4 res nodes, one hive locked down and com starts to equip his team with HMG/HA/welders and they stick together and know what to do, those fades are screwed. It is almost impossible to stop 5 HA/HMG and one HA/GL marines with full upgrades. One game that kind of a group of marines started to rush towards our hive and we couldn't stop them with 4 fades and one lerk. No matter how many acid rockets we spammed they just didn't die, because they welded each others and that GL didn't let us stay in umbra very long. If we tryed to get close and swipe them.....those HMG's killed us in few seconds.
