hopefully a change from the whining
I've been playing NS since just after the release of version 1.01, whenever that was. At the moment I play every day for about 4 hours (at least).
Firstly I play on 56k (tell me about it), but unlike a lot of games I still own DSL players with a ping of 20-40 or so. I never play with a ping under 200ms and the game is still 100% playable, apart from dropping OCs on my head now and then .
No matter how skilled you are there is a job for anyone with brains in NS. If you suck at fighting, but aren't totally brain-dead you can make a good Gorge, or Commander if that's what floats your boat. Even intelligent n00bs can be given a welder and make themselves invaluable to a marine team. (give met a pistol (read railgun) and im happy)
I also love the Ready Room, purely for the after-game discussions. No game is complete without laughing at the regular players' noob plays like falling deaths when using JPs etc.
I know that's all totally arb, but really there are so many positive aspects to NS, especially the social side and I've seen so few threads commenting on positive experiences. I think the only really good one was the stupidest things people have said/done
For the record I live in South Africa...NS is pretty small here, but we have a new player on the server I play on almost every night, so it's growing fast. The CS kiddies seem to be staying away *cheers*
Good work Flayra and his pet monkeys...
I daresay someone will find something to flame in this post...they always do...

Also it's just bloody well designed maps! I still enjoy the details of many of them, and can't really decide which one I like best! Except I know I hate the hives on Nancy for their JP HMG ventability.
GREAT JOB on whoever worked on them, they are AWESOME!! fantastically immersive!!
my favs:
-gunfire hitting metal as you scurry away as a skulk
-bullets hitting umbra
-onos primal scream
-jetpack thrust
-PG idle sound
-skulk CHOMPING sound
-chicks voice when you are commanding (totally worth the voice actor's pay Flayra and Co.!!)
-hmg fire (get such a more heavy sense of DAMAGE)
The game is great, for all the reasons you list rsd. I'm sure it makes Flayra happy to read posts like this.
Sifo
If you didn't like it you wouldn't be here!
Yeah and the game has something for everyone out there. I hope though that the dev team might make even more positions in the game which people who usually suck with skills can do....
Sounds are great! No game out there that can compete, which is for free!
Superfly did an amazing job with the sound effects, I agree. I wish he was active in the NS community (I don't think he's even played the game since it came out!) but he's really talented. If you want to write him a quick thank you note (or paste in your forum posts, he won't see them here), drop him a line at: scotth@stainlesssteelstudios.com.
Thanks for the kind words!
it's really hard to explain the umbra sound, it's kinda like.. uhm. bullets hitting a cloud. it has a very muffled effect. makes me feel all safe and happy until the (equall cool) sound of "kerChunk, kerChunk" nade launcher starts going off! :'(
Thanks for the kind words!

will do! and THANX for the GAME : D
I love the game on so many levels that it's hard to just pick one.
Yes, Sounds are AWESOME. They totally rock and add to the gameplay. I listen tensly for the chracteristic click-click-click of an approaching Skulk. I thrill to the thumping of health into my fragile alien body.
Thrills, chills. It's got it all.
For all you out there that love this game: Don't forget the Constellation!
As soon as I saw it posted, I ponied up the dough. I have bought games for far more that I enjoyed far less.
NS: The best game I didn't have to pay for but did anyway!
And the Alien awareness voice is quite good too. The urgency in "The hive is under attack!" is so real. There are so many little details in this game that go largely unnoticed, yet add significantly to the overall quality and enjoyment of the game.
So, yes, whoever handled the sounds in the game is very talented and deserves recognition, as well as the designers in general, who are responsible for many of the subtle intricacies.
And to think, this game is still relatively in its infancy and it's already great. Imagine when 1.2 comes out!
