I've never had trouble with this sort of thing in NS, but that's because my ping is normally over 200 and I hate playing marines. A HPB skulking is not an easy thing to do. When I play DOD, OTOH, I sometimes get called a haX0r if I'm something like 25:2, which makes me feel clever <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Anyone here played ESF? It's really annoying, there's 2 kinds of players there; the casual people who don't play very often (who I own), and the LPB's who have been playing since alpha and have totally godlike skills, kill about 20 people without dying (needless to say they own me, HARD).

They are becoming more common again, however, with the advent of insanely-powerful video cards like the Radeon 9700 series removing the only down-side these sorts of 'aimbots' had before, namely that of huge frame-rate hits and the fact they turned all the models brightly-coloured and boring.
Some of the newer-generation aimbots actually render the frame twice, once to actually display and once for their own use, forcing all textures used to one colour (say black), except one team's player-models, which are some other colour (say white) which is then manually scanned by the program (or even the video card itself using pixel shaders) to see if any 'enemy' pixels are on-screen, and aiming at them.
One version I've seen recently actually linked in as a USB HID device (joystick) and video card on XP, so there was no 'game hooks' involved. It simply acted like a virtual video card and mouse, and to tell it which texture-maps to treat as 'enemy' you had two modes, play and learn. Learn it showed all texture-maps loaded and let you toggle them into groups. Play made it re-center on 'enemy' pixels whenever a chosen button/key was pressed. You adjusted it's 'FOV' by telling it how much of the 'virtual screen' to scan for said enemy pixels in the same 'Learn' mode.
No, I don't know where to get them, sorry Dev's. A friend I was visiting collects things like this, Virii from computers, etc. Has CD-ROM's full of the stuff that just sits on his shelf. Some people collect baseball cards. Some people collect underware. My friend collects illicit computer code. =^.^=

I've never been one to make baseless accusations, but the simple fact is that people worry about those with high kill counts and insane ownage skills because there ARE people out their who cheat. Personally, I can't see the point, if you cheat then winning means nothing right? It's not like you're getting anything you can use out of winning an online game, but I digress. I have seen people using aimbots on public servers. Stuff like marines jumping around randomly while they spin like a top engaging enemies all around themselves with out missing, it's out there and if you've been on a server with these people you know how much it can suck. There are some unbelievably awesome players of this game, but surely the number of mediocre players willing to cheat to make themselves feel special is nearly as high, if not higher. Forcing consistency will take care of some of the more crude cheats out their, and I look forward to its inclusion. But as others have mentioned there are new aimbots that are invisible to Half-Life and thus completely invisible to a remote server. Cheating can ruin games. I used to play CS some, before I get tired of getting hit with headshots from AKs all the way across huge open areas. I think right now the biggest defense against cheating in NS is that legitimate wall hacks are built into the game somewhat negating the hack type, and ranges are short enough that aimbots aren't always reliable. In fact, I have seen people on some servers making blatant use of aimbots(snapping to targets instantaneously, etc.) but still staying nowhere near the top of their teams roster. In closing, all cheaters suck, but you don't really have to fear the wankers with no skills trying to compensate, it's the **** with decent skills who use them to win at any and all costs that really dangerous, and the fact that both of these types are out there on servers means that yes, ye gods of NS, you will probably be kicked or banned occasionally on public servers just fore being scary enough that people start to wonder, or spam on the general Say: as the case may be.
Has anyone ever been accused of a lag hack?<!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> I was quite surprised how low people will go, the admin still banned me:(
i've been banned for leep scripts, bite scripts, custom models (available through the link in my sig), aimbots, and lag hacking....
by favorite "OMG H4X" time, was when i chased a marine (that knew where i was, and didn't shoot me) for about 3 minutes.... i was behind him from the time that i spawned... until the time i parasite killed him....

If mp_consistency is on, aimbot does not work.
