i only started to map for ns last night (just under 24 hours on) i have got a nice looking Huamns area in ns_edan (plant side map)

    where is that door and crate texture from?
    Re<ally like the door, though it has a lack of detail.

    there is much place for computer consoles, and vehhicles.

    As long as more stuff will be added to it then it has potential to be a good map. Also, I noticed that everything seems to be a little large. Is that just me or is everything larger than normal (yeah, I know it is from a skulk perspective)? Also, about the door, is it just me or is that latch-thing too low?

    well, i made the area big anoth for an apc, or truck to get from the inside of the mountion, to the world

    the walls about 172 units tall

    this is also only the start of the map, as i am working on a hive section in world, (in a big crater) - story the humans blow up nancey space station, and parts fall the planet

    Make an electric fence of forcefield around the skybox no flying of climbing then.

    i was told that xenos can't climb clip brushes, so i have put a 1 unit clip brush against the sky

    the barbed wire hurts at about 75 dem per second - so u have to be perpared to have good skills in your defence, or be an ornos to get over it

    Amckern Just keep going, dont worry about the skybox !

    Let's test it before we start declaring anything about it

    Just make sure that skulks can't climb it.

    so far they can't, i am realy looking at adding a avp2, style out side area (even got the tex for it)

    though it will be some time for me to get all the brushes (and the hive) in

    other then that, i am working on the inside with a air , and water filter plant (and a nice partical fx machine)

    I also have come up against a mappers block, i will get back to the map once the block passes

    As long as you realize that this map cannot be official if it's using Aliens vs Predator 2 textures. Those textures are copyrighted by FOX and Monolith, so they'd use threats of legal action if they found out a free mod for an entirely different game was using them. FOX has done it before, and for far less.

    dont think that is what he means IMO. i think he is wanting to add in an outside area similar to the ones in avp2, and that he has half-life textures for it.

    they are custom tex that i have made (why dose ns have to be from the ns wad, it will get boring after a small amount of time!)

    and yes i am trying to build an area like the avp2 out side - useing my custom tex

    i won't let ns get "FOXED" - by me any ways

    Omg , im really sick and tired of people just saying that you cant bulid the outside area cos of that sky problem , if you really are a dedicated mapper then you find clever ways of geting round it , people who just give up straight away ,are just people who really cant be bothered to try, or tried couldnt do it on the first try then gave up.

    i am not leting this map up, its going to be my pet project, and hopefully, get a player base that likes my maps, more then my m4a1_map for cs, with over 5000 players

    Hmm... very nice. It looks great so far, maybe i should send you some of the concepts i had for never started mapping project "ns_Eden"

    Interested? even got a way around the skybrush+lerk problem.

    The water is way too bright. use a darker texture and maybe transparent water.
    Your hive infestation is nice but always fullbright!!!
    could be because its func_illusionary, its ignoring light <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
    use a darker texture there too or make it func_wall with rendermode solid.

    Your outside areas look good, hopefully this is still ballanced...
    That long ladder looks not fair for marines. I like steps more.

    yeah, that was after i did some rad, i was supprised that the cave i did (with whats hanging from the roof) turned out the way it did

    the rad was ran, its just the lights where an guessement (not a word, but <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> )

    I still have to figger around with them, as i am rading with 3 bounces

    My water is now see through (55 fx), and as the infestaion is an alpha - i did the wrong thing and made the fx 255, and not 88, the 88 alpha works now nicely

    i am trying to put the next hive close by, but the map is to small - so it might have to go on the other side of the map (easy for xeno to get to, but hard for humans - something i'll have to do there)

    ns_edan is public for verion one

    two download types - Linx zips, and windows installers

    the map is 97% done, the third hive will go some where near where it is in the final version, unless ppl like where its at - then it will stay

    1 bug

    xenos can climb the sky above the marrine spawn door, that will be fixed in verion 2, it should be fixed now, all but i had a FAT crash (ie my hard drive crashed), so my mapping pc is off air for a few days while i resotre from my 67 back up cds

    The only thing I think looks really not good is the hive room. It's just to square. THe water textures doesn't fit, and you should make the ground a bit bumpy.

    large open areas make it such a favour map for marines, especially with JP.

    Yeah, the hive rooms need more clutter, they're far too open at the moment - easy for marines to rush and lockdown.

    another bug i found, and should fix is that orons can not get out, nor in the door at the bottom of the ramp in the "Outsdie Boxes"

    also, is the loaction of "This hive will move in BETA" ok?

    ns_edan is also the result of a concept thread about 3 months ago, just after i signed up on the forums, i found the thread, and took the concept of edan, and made it real

    though its less out side then i would have liked, to get the feel of a hillside loction, i had to make some parts indoors, hence the stroy line in the ns_edan.exe installer, or ns_edan.txt found in the /maps folder
