sheena... this post wasn't a personal attack upon your models or anything like that. At least not in my case. I understand already you weren't planning for a release... but you also need to realize a lot of people in these forums go into a frenzy, and even before this debate began people were asking you when you would release this model, whether you planned to or no. And I've seen otehrs say "oh I won't release this" and release it anyway after the community persuades them... and sometimes they are conversions... and sometimes the proper parties aren't given credit. I don't like conversions but I also know there isn't anything I can really do about them, except hope that people keep respect to the original authors... that's all I was trying to accomplish. Those who resorted to personal attacks, whatever... most of those arguments were poor anyway. I'm not going back on anything I've already said... but I'm also saying this isn't about you personally sheena.

You know what? I dont give a frick about who the hell made the model. I do not care. If I made a model, and someone made a hackjob, didnt even ask me, didnt give credits to me. You know what? I would give a lazy grunt, then sniff, and mabey scratch my butt in a lazy manner, then cary on with my life. Now, if they took it, and converted it for a retail game, I want some money. And if they took it, and called it thier own, they will recieve a long e-mail. And you know what? The chances of me finding that out are slim, cus I dont care. Im just a redneck.

    Thank you.

(ps) I will always download sheenas models, even if they are not hers. She is cool, and that is final.

Boo-f*cking-hoo. I don't doubt she would have given full credit in her readme. People don't read it? Well that's tough t*tty-biscuits to them.

The fact of the matter is that I don't see the original creator jumping into this thread on a self-righteous mission to belittle someone. If he/she doesn't want the model to be used, let he/she come here and say so. You have no right to come here and cry 'wolf!' (no pun intended).

So how about you take your attitude, shove it up your *rse and f*ck off back under whichever rock you crawled out from. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I didnt think it was possible, but Wolf's reign of stupidity may in competition with a possibly stupider ***hole.

You always have to ask permission, in fact it was actually recently made against the law to find something else on the internet made by a 3rd party and use it however you please without consent from that 3rd party or person. If the makers of those models dont want them used in Natural Selection, then they arnt to be, so if you dont ask permission you dont know if they mind or not, I bet those modelers would be pretty **** if they were going through these forums and found someone using their models without their permission. Its just not what you do, unless you're a jack*** like yourself <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
blah blah Internet Protection Act ( no clue of the actual name, sue me). Protection of Intellectual Property.

You got that half right though: that law only protects someone from getting their ideas/work ripped off from others with the <b>intent of making a profit or marketing it as their own</b>. At no point in sheena's post was it implied that the model was hers, or that it was her work. I really do not see how the topic title (Siege Attempt2) translates into "omg hihi i maed this", but it eventually got to the point where that's exactly what happened.

Don't blame sheena for others' misconceptions.

This is a hackjob, an unreleased one. If and when this model is released, I expect proper credits to be given (in a readme file, whether people read them or not does not concern me: I check EVERY readme for EVERY custom model for EVERY game I look at. Regardless.) just like anyone else on this board.

Do not turn this thread into a shouting match. Do not turn this thread into a flame war. If you people want to whine and grope, so be it; I, however, will be waiting patiently for this model to be fixed, credited, and released.

You three have also set a precedent for yourselves. I'll be waiting for you in my thread when I release my jetpack hackjob.

    Good day.

i always sayd that i RESPECT low poly modellers... i see them as ARTISTS... because that low poly modelling stuff is so much harder then the high poly stuff im familar with.. you cant waste around with polygons and textures and other stuff.. i never worked with milkshape before... its looks to me so much different to max and auto-cad.. that sounds stupid now..but i was so amazed about myself, because i figured out how this neat little application works.. how that mdl system works.. ive already done animations from scratch, and aditional bones...and other crap..abd that after 1 day whooo amazing.. i was so amazed that ive forgot to give credits for an not even wip pic...

btw..ive asked for permission by harl and fox... fox email addy does not exists, and harlequin replyed that:

Looks good, feel free to use it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Though if it goes public then
    naturally I'd want some credit

    harl

its naturaly for me to credit artist...
and now...let me alone with my frustration.. i have to figure out why this damn thing wont work

I am personaly kinda upset that the topic went straight from a note about sheena not giving proper credit to a huge flamewar and personal insults, it just kinda went straight to hell after Wolf posted, but I would say for good reason, things are starting to calm down now, I think it would be best if the mods didnt lock this topic

Sheena: thanks for that reply, it's nice to know you cared enough to e-mail them even if you aren't releasing the model. I probably would only do something like that if I was planning a release, although this thread has degenerated a lot, so I understand why you took those measures as well <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

As for your problem, try to look up controllers. If I'm not mistaken the turrets in NS rotate using controllers, just like in SP HL the scientists heads and mouths are controlled through these controllers. I really don't know much about them but if I come across something I'll try to post it. Least I can do after I've helped turn this thread into it's degenerate pile of goo

EDIT: oops I've just realized you have already talked about controllers... bah I'll try to think of something... hrmumph... There are always alternate compilers than those included in milkshape...

omg liek trols!!1 ahhhHHHhhHHhhhh!!1 i think this thread is going to be locked VERY soon. and i think that sure it was wrong for sheena to do what she did [edit] after reading sheena's reply i see that she didnt do anything wrong. [/edit], and i think she knows this. im pretty sure she didn't want to tick so many people off just by releasing a little model. but that still doesn't give any of you guys any right to open a full-fledged flame war.

    See Monse's post below.

Most of you get - 1 happy points for contributing in a negative fashion.

Any respect I had for quite a few of you before is now slap bang back at 0. Which pretty much removes half of the argument. Nice.

Sounds like everyone here needs a hug and a valium. Well I'm sure as hell not hugging anybody, so here's the valium:

    *click*

PS: Just a suggestion to all the modelers and 'model recombiners' out here - if an original artist says anything <b>EXCEPT</b> 'use this model all you want, I don't care', you are bound by regular intellectual property right rules, such as copyright. Ignoring the legaility of it for a moment, reworking someone's model without their permission and then posting it on the internet is pretty unethical. Being obtuse and letting people think that you made it without help is not especially cool either. We (the NS team) go after people who 'borrow' our artist's work as aggressively as we can, and there's no reason why other artists can or won't either. It's one thing to download a texture and use it to practice your technique on your own PC without bothering anyone else. As soon as you post that work and make claims to it, you're getting into that slimey area. Not my opinion, just the law.

I'm not suspending or reprimanding anyone here, as just about everyone in this thread is guilty of acting ugly. Take a deep breath and chill. If anyone starts up a new 'continued' thread though, I'm gonna hurt ya.

I'm especially dissapointed at some of our more long-term members.

    For shame...
